hey guys another question bout my fixit for smoked tails. the e46 tail lights are made up of 4 pieces right, the 2 outer brake lights and the 2 inner reverse lights. well since the inner reverse lights don't light up where the smoked part is, legally do i have to replace those also? i know the car would look stupid with half red/half smoked lights, but would it pass the sign-off? thanks for the help
Jeff

NO, you don't. You always must signal when turning, but during lane changes, I would have to prove that the lane change was unsafe. Simply not signaling is not enough, I would have to say that you didn't signal and there were vehicles all around you that were endangered by the fact that you gave no warning of your intent to change lanes (or something to that effect....vehicles had to swerve, brake, etc).

I would think that you would be ok, but I guess it depends on who signs you off or where you go to get signed off. If you live in my station area, I can check out the car and sign it off if I'm satisfied.

Sorry about the delayed response.... I'm been a little bit busy what with just buying Guitar Hero II and Halo 3 within the last two weeks

They SHOULD be legal. But if you install them, you have to use all four, or five belts to satisfy the seatbelt law. The only way that they wouldn't be legal is if I could prove that they're less safe than the passive restraints that come from the factory (which would be really hard to do).

I would change out the entire light. Since the back-up light is tinted it's illegal. Granted, most officers don't know that the reverse light has to be white in color, but if the person who signs it off feels like being a jerk, you could get one ticket signed off and get a new one for reverse lights being the wrong color.

The last number looks like a CHP accident report number. It looks like it might be from March of 2005. But the last number seems out of the norm. Our reports (crashes at least) are numbered like so:

Last two digits of year-Month-number of crash that month

This is specific to each area. So if you have a report numbered 07-10-014 you were involved in the fourteenth crash of October, 2007. And on and on. Laguna Hills is in the San Juan Capistrano area for CHP. Check with them for a report.

Question: *eehhmm* Somone I *know* has clear front turn/fender lights with CLEAR bulbs.

Meaning when they flash, they flash a white light (but in a way it looks kind of amber. IMO no one would be able to notice unless they were purposely looking for it.)

What would you do on the spot?

Would you give me a ticket or a warning?

Thanks.

Even if they were white, it would be legal. They're required to be white or amber by the vehicle code, so you're all good...

Then why do they even make amber (ugliest color possible, and I know this is my opinion but I'm pretty sure more than 50% would agree)
