I heard something about a 200 hour 'wear-in' period where the phosphors burn brighter in the beginning (?) and the TV should be set to a little darker setting during this period. I also heard that the plasmas are more burn-in prone in the first 100-200 hours.
I got a Panasonic TH-42PX60U a few days ago. It's a 9th generation plasma Panasonic display. Should I be worried about any of this stuff? What do you make of this? PS: Sorry if it's a stupid question. As much as I researched this, it's hard to find a definite answer online, and from my experience with Bimmer advice, this forum usually knows best (well... knows pretty good).

Suck it easy.............
|
its 100 to 200 hours that you are suppose to break-in the plasma....
here's a link to a dvd/vcd that you can download and burn which helps in the break-in process. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=583089

Fourth, consider every technology in the market. I've been down on plasma sets in the past, mainly because they cost too much in high-definition models (those under-$3,000 sets all top out at a 480-line enhanced-definition resolution). But true HD plasmas are now starting to come down to Earth, while manufacturers say they've addressed burn-in and lifespan issues. Panasonic, for example, says the phosphor chemicals on its latest models now eliminate the need for a break-in period of restrained use (yes, just like on a new car) that some plasma experts once recommended. Across the board, 60,000-hour lifespans (enough for, manufacturers say, 25 years of viewing) are now the usual instead of 30,000 hours.

Thanks for the referral. The only problem with that site is that it may have too much information.
Anyone have burn-in/image retention issues here?

I just picked up a 42" Hitachi plasma and am curious about this as well. Both the contrast and brightness are turned down to around 50%. Is that not enough? 1000 hrs of break-in seems like a bit much
... Did anybody else use the breakin cd from AV forums? Thanks. |

I burned both the SVCD and DVD. Currently I'm using the DVD and I'm at about 60 hours. They say that for my TV, the first 100 hours are critical, and the remaining 900 one should not be exactly careless about either. I got about 60 hours of 70% break-in dvd and 30% watching tv on low settings in full screen so far...
