Just bought a new old car, and no its not an M3.

Hey guys,

A few of you might know I had a serious disappointment a couple of weeks ago on getting my first M3. I've been search now for a while, and apart from that one I got reneged on, I just haven't found anything gets me excited. Until now.

I've just bought a red 1972 Volvo P1800E. For anyone who still remembers, its the Saint's car. God I love it and even more importantly, my wife loves it. You know the saying, happy wife, happy life. Its got a couple of small problems, but for its condition and price, I'm extremely happy and I can take my time slowing fixing it up. Anyway, I haven't got any pics of the actual car to show right now, but I'll be picking it up in about a week so I'll put up some pics then.

Here's a pic of one for anyone who doesn't know what it looks like.

Congratulations on the purchase Shannon.

I saw one of these drive by the other day and was intrigued by the lines of the car and was surprised it was a Volvo... Truly beautiful.

Thanks everyone, as soon as I get it home I'll take some pics and post them. My dream of finally getting an M3 is still alive, its just been put on hold again, I guess my 318i still has a few more years left in her for me.

Hi Dave, thankfully there's not a real lot that needs to be done for a car this age.

Body wise there is 2 small rust bubbles just starting to show, one under the drivers door and one just behind the drivers rear window. There is one large dent though on the lower passenger rear quarter where it looks like someone has rammed into the car with a shopping trolley or something.

Interior looks good but is just above average. The leather seats are cracked around the edges so will need a recover in the future. The carpeting is a bit dirty and dated but still ok, the interior lights covers are both faded and cracked, the fuse box cover is missing, the center console cover is cracked and the previous owner has removed the original radio and replaced it with god awful 90's cheap radio/CD player. But as a bonus, it comes with rare as rocking horse sh1t factory fitted aircon which on its own is worth in excess of $5K.

Mechanically seems to be all fine from what I could see, hear and feel. The engine is the 1986cc fuel injected i4 with a reworked cam, remapped ecu and the engine components all seem to be in good condition. It has a 4 speed manual gearbox with an overdrive and 4 wheel disc brakes, although they feel a little spongy so will need a looking at and has original Volvo sport rims.

Haha thanks mate, don't think I'll be going that far, I'd like to keep this one near original. But you never know maybe in the future I'll find another car really cheap to totally strip out and rebuild with an LS1 like that guy did, maybe even turn one into Mattias Vöcks' re-imaged P1800.

Haha yeah mate for sure. I'm also thinking about getting a Nardi wheel as well. Where did you get yours and for how much?

You need this lol: http://volvodownunder.com.au/P1800_5...t-Keyring.html

Great classic to own and restore, the coupe roof and quarters make it such a unique car style wise.
