It's all to do with the driver and their behaviour. When I got my car, the P/O was averaging 11.8, And for the first few months it stayed just slightly above 12 as I got used to the car. Now it just stays in the 13-14 region.

Believe it or not, the 325 is the most uneconomical e46 (can't recall what it's like compared to the M3). 318/320 are designed to be fuel efficent, 325s need to put the foot down more to get the lug moving, while 330ci can effortlessly pull the rig around without too much trouble.

really? that sounds a bit hard to believe, i heard the 318's and 320's (Especially) weren't too good on fuel because of the weight and how hard you need to step on it to get it going, with 325's being in the middle and 330's being more efficient due to less reving requried.
If these cars were lighter then i could see the smaller engines being more efficient but i'm not too sure about e46's.

I mean i could imagine a 6 cylnder with only 2 litres being pretty sluggish without reving.

By the way, i'm averaging 10.3 according to the OBD in my 325 and i mostly do city driving. I'm also averaging about 8.2 litres/100km in the mazda regardless of how i drive it but that's a 2 litre and quite light (1170kg).

FWIW I mostly see low 13s on mine (mixed but less fwy)

2004 330i MSport Auto

I did expect it to be better ...more like 11-12 l/100
but a dirty airfilter and original fuel pump prob doesnt help

^ hmmm good point. Will change those at the next service, but I'm still impressed with what I'm getting out of it.

Mind you, I prefer open windows / sunroof to AC, so maybe that helps a tad.

i dont use the aircond too much either
neither the windows (melb is cooler most times)...as open windows create more drag..hence economy down

Hi and here's my new baby...

Hey everyone, just joined recently as I picked up my 05 325Ci Sport about 3 weeks ago (sold my silver 318is Sport - which I loved!), here are some pics. Am currently looking around for wheels, was thinking CSL replica's initially but wouldn't mind trying for something different... Your thoughts/advice are appreciated

GRK, welcome to the forum! That's a very clean example of a 325

CSL's will look nice if you want to maintain that factory look, but IMO your car can pull off something a little more 'modified'!

hey guys,

Quick question...how much are the factory M3 19" wheels worth roughly? going to be selling my set soon as I'm going to order some new rims with 'better' fitment for the M. Can be sold with or without tyres. Tyres have about 80% tread on them?

Thanks!

Thats a pretty good return from an M ! Did you do regular freeway cruising?

I get 12.5 in the M3 and its all city driving. When i first bought it, it was getting 13.5l per 100km =\

My mates E36 M3 gets like 10.0L p/100km

My old E46 coupe (325ci) returned in the 11.0-12.0L per 100km range, and you could drive it as hard as you wanted - the fuel economy wouldn't budge.

Not a lot of freeway driving, I think the 4.10 gears helped to be honest.
