Yeah, huge difference between cheap replicas and genuine headlights.

While it is true that the reflector dish in OEM projectors is made specifically for Xenon and that DEPO reflector dish is made for both halogen AND Xenon applications, the output from the OEM reflector dish and the DEPO reflector dish is minimal. Try and spot the differences over in the Lighting Forum where people have posted their projector light output.
sillieidiot (lighting guru) made this point a while back and quite frankly his observation just convinced me.

It is one of the pivotal reasons why so many people are interested in buying DEPO here on E46Fanatics in the first place, not only because of the obvious price difference; but because the benefits (if any, minor or major) is not justified in the price of OEM projectors.

But if some peeps want to go spend $700-$1000AUD per corner on a projector headlight, by all means, go for gold!

The reason people go DEPO, is purely because of the price difference. Let's face it, the build quality is nowhere near OEM.

ive seen the quality first hand of the depo indicator lenses - id hate to imagine relying on said poor quality for headlights

the output/beam spread wouldnt be optimal if the projector isnt designed specifically for the arc of a xenon globe

Aftermarket parts often will never be as good as OEM. That's true due to the fact that these aftermarket companies would never invest the same amount of money which BMW has done obviously.

Regarding DEPO headlights, lots of people have them on their cars including myself. Instead of paying $1000 per headlight(I think) from BMW which most guys here wouldn't, why not $500 for a the lot while still getting a reasonably well build product? It's been more than a year now and my DEPO projectors are still running perfectly, I am not sure how the lense could end up being cracked

Whilst the optics just aren't up to par to OEM, they are the best/only reasonable alternative.

not saying that they are made to be poor, but I have seen lots of them like this now. I will take photos next time I see one. But for the price you pay, they are tops.

Some other brands of projector headlights I've seen for E46 are bad quality. I know a few DEPO ones roam around on eBay, but there are ones that are from another manufacturer - and they're even worse. For the money you pay, DEPO are reasonable alternative. I can't vouch that the build quality is the same (obviously), as many distinct functions are lacking from DEPO P46s; but they serve their purpose well and I'm not at all disappointed.

Got my windows tinted today, T20 sports black all round. Looks sweet now, especially with my blinds on my back windows, you can't see anything from the outside.

If you're wiling to wait around, you can find a bargain on the OEM projectors, I got mine for around 6-700 and just saw a pair go for 350 USD,
having said that, I DO need some new bulbs for mine.

Can you get D2S in 4500k-5000k Jason?
