ICE Help...what is a good in dash dvd screen model?

Heard of Alpine...Pioneer..any model numbers? Also, I'm guessing I will need to get a separate cd/dvd player (external) to work with the screen?

Sorry about the stupid question, but I am new to the in car entertainment deal...

They're all good.
Go to Crutchfield and browse the different models. They all offer different features/options at different prices.

I got the Panasonic CQ-VCD9200U. Better than the Clarion touch screen one. Just doesn't have the "touch screen" option. It has everything the Clarion has including Mp3, a digital 5.1 encoder (in which the Clarion's encoder is sold seperately) and a built in 35 Watt Center Channel Amp. It also has a higher RMS at 22 W. I got mine for $1700.

panasonic makes LCD for clarion, kenwood, and pioneer i believe...

lcd quality wise.. it should be all the same.. it's just the features. I personally HAVE to have touchscreen so kenwood was my best choice...

clarion wont' let you add a NAV.. so it's pointless..

Nooooooooooooo!!!!! I have seen all of these displays in person and I can tell you that the panasonic ones are some of the WORST..... The best in that list is definetley pioneer. I have one and even in direct sunlight the colors are vivid and natural. Kenwood I like but the touchscreen will get worn out quickly.

Isn't the touch screen just a palm PDA but bigger? Why would you guys think it'll get worn out fast? I'm gonna use a Palm stylus for the touch screen then...

I dont think it will get worn out fast - I know. Maybe they have fixed the problems already but I remember a couple circumstances where either the touch portion of the screen would go bad or the pixels below it would go bad. Either way - no good..... plus, I think the display quality is sub par.

Ok, that's your opinion.

I looked at them all, playing the same movie (Monsters Inc.) when I made my decision. Panasonic had decent pic quality, Pioneer was just ok, Kenwood was great, as was Clarion. I also went to a different shop that had all the players hooked up and came to the same conclusion.

Which pioneer were you looking at the 7300 or the 7000?

7000? Do you mean the DVH-P7000 ? That unit is just an indash DVD player - no screen. The AVX-P7300DVD has a screen and a DVD player, and the AVX-7300 has screen but only plays CDs.

The AVH-P7490DVD is the latest with included Dolby Digital decoder and 6 amplified channels and uses the AVX-P7300DVD head unit. If you can find it for less than the MSRP of $2800, then it's a pretty good deal.

I looked at both 7300 units. The 7490DVD package was not in stores at the time. The Poineer units weren't bad, the colors were just not as sharp as the Clarion and Kenwood. Otherwise, the quality of the picture was very good. It could be how the stores had them setup, too.

Yes, I was reffering to the AVX-P7000cd and the AVX-p7300. I have the 7000cd and I have to tell you I have compared it to others... maybe it was the ones that I compared it to or the store setup... either way as long as we are both happy with the quality.

Hey playinj30

Any idea when that Alpine is gonna be out? I'm an Alpine man too. But I am getting tired of waiting for them to put one out.

The Alpine screens, in NO WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, can even compare to the Pioneer, Clarion, Eclipse, or Kenwood screen resolution.

They can't compair because they are better....the CVA 1005 had and is still close to the best picture. Apline rocks the monitors. Plus you think a touch screen plasma helps resolution???? Nope.

Does any one have any info on the new DVD Alpine peace?

OK, hang on a second....you're telling me that the Alpine picture is BETTER than the rest???? I have used most every screen on the market, and the Alpine comes in at the bottom of the list as far as picutre quality is concered. I love Alpine, don't get me wrong, but Alpine screen quality IS NOT very good.
