Question for those who use their 5.1/6.1/7.1 setups for 2.0 audio
Do you use the subwoofer for 2-channel audio like that from a CD?

Yes, however I set my crossover to 120Hz rather than 80.

If you have tower speakers with a big woofer, you may want to use it w/out the sub. I have Paradigm Studio 20's, which are 2-way bookshelves, so I use the sub all the time. Really, you need to listen to some music with and without the sub and determine which one you like better. You will get more bass from the sub than w/ your main speakers.

Where does the bass normally "hang around" for Rap and Metal/Rock music?

With most receievers you can't output to the subwoofer for 2 channel cd audio, so this isn't an issue as the subwoofer is only wired to accept an lfe channel (the .1 in 5.1).
Unless of course you wire your sub using speaker wire and pass through the main l/r signals through the sub and to the main speakers. Of course in that case, you wouldn't get lfe audio in movies. |

I am not sure about all recievers, but my sub is always on with my denon. Maybe it has to do with the bass management. I have all my speakers set to small. Having a good sub properly calibrated helps a great deal. My sub does a great job blending in with my speakers, if it were not for the huge tube in ther corner one would think the sound was only coming from my speakers...

I personally like playing music with DPL II soundfield as it sounds more ambient. Quote:
