Here we go again...S54 E30 Transplant...

As always I'll try to document everything as well as I can...A new site has been created http://E30.mit.edu/ But of course nothing is there yet...

So the story is...my older cousin...David...is also an avid BMW enthusiast...and has an E30...and I have an extra S54 engine...so it seems only logical to team up to build a S54 E30...

$6000 for Euro S54 Engine + SMGII Transmission with 4K miles on the clock...

Brings back memories...but this time I know what everything is...

Looks good so far...

Doh...some shipping damage...pipe is bent and SMG position sensor is missing...hmmm...

Unpack some more...

And some more...

Euro headers...

Clean off the engine...

David's E30 325is...He picked it up for $500...

We took a bunch of premeasurements...to make sure this is even possible...

Then we found out someone on S14.net has already done it...so that made things a lot easier...

But I think ours will be the first SMGII E30...we shall see...

Removing Euro headers...

Unbolt the sucker...

Headers are a piece of cake when the engine is out of the car...

Here's some US vs. Euro Header comparisons...

The Euro is definitely more free flowing but I think CSL or ebay are even more? Who knows?

Anyway...Picked up a cherry picker today...We heard we can't drop the engine out of the E30...we're gonna have to raise it out of there...got a bunch of new air tools...Pulling out the engine this Sunday stay tuned...Gonna try to finish this one in less than 2 years this time...=)

This will be so awesome, I've always loved the e30. I'm sure this project will be one to write down in the record books.

Yipeee... does this mean any slowing of progress on "the other project"... better not... I'd cry... but that car could be the ultimate sleeper when finished.
