Rattling sound under the car while decelerating, help!

Hi guys,

I have a 2000 323i. I have a rattling sound from under the car. It occurs while decelerating at about 1700 rpm. I'm worried that it might be the Catalytic converter since it's so expensive, or maybe resonators? Any body has any ideas? Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my '04 325i and upon inspection the dealership indicated it was a loose bearing in my fuel pump. They replaced the fuel pump and the rattling stopped. Not sure if this is the same scenario but hope this helps.

In my case the bolts securing the exhaust bracket needed to be replaced as they were rusted. it was loose and caused the rattle.

check this out - i have attached a picuture from BMW service about what needed to be replaced somewhere on the first page:

this may also prove helpful:

No more rattle.

Wow guys, thanks for all the replies! The reason I thought it was the catalytic converter was because I had another car that had the same issue and I didn't know BMWs have the cat at the headers which makes it soooo expensive to repair.

But this really makes me feel much better cuz it shouldn't be a big deal. I'll have it checked on the lift then. Thanks!
