When you look at the newer bimmers and tell yourself "my e46 looks more bimmer than that."

When your neighbors think BMWs are problem cars, because of the amount of time they see you spending maintaining yours.

when you grumble about giving people a ride because they will track dirt into your car that is spotless from hours of detailing.

when you wave at other E46 owners

if you've ever washed and waxed your car more than once in a single week

when your nervous about your car spontaneously bursting into flames from faulty wiring of mods

when you cant sleep so you walk out to your E46 just to look at it

When you park your car then get out and linger in the spot next to you so other cars pass it up lol

When you leave your car at your gf's place coz you are flying out of town, then leave her the keys (it would be weird if you didn't), but she can't drive it coz half an hour ago you hooked up PA soft and disabled the very key you gave her....
Aaaah....love....

You spend $7.5k on a (literally) entire suspension upgrade (literally the entire suspension) including: KW V2's/ZHP FCA's/Powerflex 66mm FCABs and Housing + Subframe Bushings/RE RSM's + Blue ("Race") RTAB's/Hotchkis Fully Adjustable Swaybar Kit/TMS Adjustable Rear Control(Camber) Arms + TMS Rear Control Arm Bushings(Bearings)/plus waaaay more, as well as: TMS full car reinforcement kit, UUC "Race" Engine/Transmission Mounts (+ Enforcers), Meyle HD Front Differential Mount plus Turner Solid Rear Diff Mounts, UUC Adjustable Sway Bar Endlinks, Meyle HD Full Tie Rods, UUC SS Braided Clutch Line, ZHP Shift Knob, UUC EVO3 SSK + DSSR, and other stuff I can't remember OTOMH.
You do this just 4 months after having the entire brake system of the car upgraded: StopTech/PowerSlot Slotted/Vented Rotors, 330 Caliper Swap, StopTech ST Pads, StopTech SS Braided Brake Lines, Motul RBF600 fluid, Brass Caliper Pins, new 330 master cylinder, and more that I cant remember at the moment.

You are already purchasing parts for the next overhaul including: UUC Ultimate Lightweight Dual-Mass Clutch and Flywheel (23lbs for entire package), CRC Radiator, Stett Performance Silicone Radiator Hoses, Stett/Bimmerbrakes (whoever is better at the time) Headers, Fabspeed 80cell Metallic Ultra-High-Flow cats, Stewart-EMP Water Pump, UUC/Rogue Engineering Underdrive Pulleys (mix of the two kits), Aluminum Thermostat Housing, Linea Corsa "LM" reps in 19x8.5f/9.5r with Michelin Pilot SuperSport tires in 235f/245-255r, AFE Stage1 Pro-Dry-S Intake Kit, Shark Injector (unless there is a better tune I don't know about), custom-made carbon fiber intake tubing (behind the heatshield), and more....

AND YOU DO THIS ON A 2001 325i 5MT/ZSP (Euro OEM) WITH 157,000 MILES!!! GAAAH!!

Your wife gives you a strange look after explaining why you bought a new cup holder for the center console. The strange looks continue when you mention buying new A-pillars because the fabric is sagging on the existing ones.

After taking delivery from the original owner, the very first time you roll into your garage, you roll onto ramps to do an oil change because the PO followed 15k intervals.

All fluids in your car are distilled or synthetic.

You are always thinking of the next thing that needs to be replaced.

You still haven't fully adjusted to the clutch delay valve, and never will.

You secretly classify your car as "rare" because it has a naturally-aspirated inline 6
