OOH worked like a charm on my drivers side door. I checked to see of the door lock mechanism worked with the door opened. It didn't, so I turned it counter clockwise, then clockwise and twisted it good. Excellent and now the handle is as smooth as butter.

Try using a good sized pliers to grip the end so you can twist the allen wrench with more torque.

kinda very angry right now.
I decided to try this last night. OMFG in this freezing cold and shitt in NY, i get locked out of my car. I dont know if i turned it too much, although i felt no turn at all. So in the midst of havin my car stuck in the middle of the road, snow ice coming down...i get locked out. WOW or is this just something that happens when it gets cold, freezing? wtf did i do wrong. |

WOW! I've been driving my car all this time like that.
I brought it to the local bmw shop twice. 1st time they adjusted some things and made it difficult to clsoe the door. still same problem. I brought it back, they tinkered around for another 45 minutes got it a bit better and then said "all 2 door E46s are like this. thats normal" so i figured that was the truth. So, tonight while i was at work I was surfing the board and found this thread by accident. As soon as i got home, I HAD to try it (yup. I just got in from the garage) its 12:45 AM and at first i just tried tightening.. nothing happend so I thought "ok, i guess they were right" BUT.. all i did was loosen it slightly, then tighten back up. I went to go and try it and to my surprise It opened up instantly. I couldnt believe it. Its going to take some getting used to though lol. THANKS! I appreciate it |

Much thanks to OP and "gokcer" who pointed me to this thread. This worked nicely. No more having to reach over to open passenger the door from the inside! I've been dealing with for years now! Been on my list of things for dealer to fix too.
DIY did not work the 1st time around for me. So I loosened and tightened up again and it worked. So keep trying if its not working for ya.
