2007 M3 Sedan Article in Popular Science Magazine...

Hey guys,

I found this in this months magazine...no manual?

Sorry for the picture quality. The picture is a camoflagued E90 sedan for sure so the picture quality doesn't matter too much. But the text was interesting. My camera phone sucks indoors!!

Why's it so surprising that you can only get an auto in a 415 hp luxury car? I don't see why you'd want a manual other than to fulfull a ***** mentality.

Because a manual makes the driver feel more involved. Its a 70k driving car that is marketted as the ultimate driving machine....

A person who needs a shift knob doesn't have enough suspension mods.

e46 M3 was 48K, thats a 13K price increase, not likely e36 to e46 price increase was about $8K, id say the new E92 will start at $55K

no way, it will start at around 55k, my guess is just under the 55k mark. that will put it in line as the M model for the 3 series, btw the e39 M5 was about 80k while the E46 M3 was high 40s to low 50s when it was introduced, so how do you come up with 75k for it versus an 85k M5??? and if the M5 and M6 are coming here with a six speed manual, you better believe the M3 will have one too. And, unless the new/current 7 speed SMG is leaps and bounds better than the 6spd version, the stick will still beat it out, as it does in the current M3. This is one department where I think BMW is behind Audi (with it's DSG, basically from F1 and from porshce) and Benz and they're autos. The BMW autos are making leaps and bounds in the E60 and E90 but they're no DSG, IE they aren't putting out 0-60 and 1/4 times that are .2-.3 secs faster than the manuals like the Audi's does.

Anyone who buys a BMW with an automatic has no business owning or driving the car in the first place.

So I've had a manual e46 and now own a auto one. Does that mean I don't have the right to drive a BMW now. I do a lot of stuck in traffic driving which is why I swapped and I'm glad I did, my left foot isn't so bloody sore now.

Anyone who tries to justify a manual by saying it helps their ADD while driving...err...is sporty doesn't understand that it's useless 99.9% of the time they drive.

Btw, all REAL sports cars have autos...automatic transmissions are faster than manuals once you get to a certain point of power, since the parasitic loss isn't as great as the loss due to how much longer it takes you to shift.

So, basically, if you have a manual, it's not "sporty", it only indicates that you either 1) have an underpowered car, or 2) are trying to save money by getting the cheaper transmission that saves a small bit of money on gas.

It's a subconscious desire that has to be fulfilled by being able to grab a phallic-shaped shifter.

Seriously, what's wrong with an Auto, how practical is a Manual these days?

And Auto owners don't deserve BMWs? HAHA!

I worked at a BMW dealership and 95% of our customer cars were Autos.

Out with the Manuals and in with the SMG and Steptronics!
