Question AUX input for 2001 325i

Now let me clarify I have not done anything regarding this issue or spent any money, so any options are available to me (as long as they are not too expensive). But I am currently facing a dilemma with my new 2001 e46; it has a great sound system the Harman Kardon audio system, however as many of you know by now the stereo has no option for an Auxiliary input. I know many threads have been posted regarding this issue, but none have seemed to provide a solution to my situation.
I want to know what my options are if I want to have an Aux input, like will an aftermarket stereo work, and if so what adapters do I need; or is this a project that only professionals can attempt to do. I know there are some complications regarding the factory sound system and trying to connect it with an aftermarket stereo. Any answers would be helpful, because the FM transmitter I am using to play music from my phone is god awful.

Yup, just pop in the wires and then find a place to have the cable come out from.
