Preventative Maint (kind of preventative) at 52,000 miles and 5 1/2 years...........

I was expecting to do all this later this year, but since my expansion tank decided to crack on Friday here's the list that will be getting done on the coupe next week.

(the low coolant light came on, and the temp never got above normal on the drive home maybe 8 miles. I was concerned when the expansion tank was totally empty - and when I poured BMW coolant in, it starting dripping out the tank........),

52,000 miles, purchased new Feb 2001.

Mike Miller would be proud.......

New radiator and expansion tank
New water pump (the new one that UUC and others have now)
New thermostat
New hoses
Coolant flush (has been done every 2 years since new)
New serpintine belt
UUC Pulleys (why not!!!!!!!!!)
New spark plugs and boot stops
Oil change (done every 7500 miles)
Tranny fluid (was done at 30,000)
Diff fluid (was done at 30,000)
Pollen filter
Fuel filter

It will be about $1500 or so done by my indy shop here in Atlanta. Plus, the flatbed charges to get the car over there - no way am I driving it 15 miles since I have no idea how much coolant is left.

In any case, that should have me set for another 5 years or so, with only regular fluids, tires and brakes to worry about, unless of course the wheel bearings or power steering pump go out, or the drive shaft guilbo. Front control arms and bushings were done 3 months ago and power steering fluid flushed then too, as well as the Brake fluid (flushed yearly).

Yes, this is what you need to expect to do for any E46 with over 50,000-60,000 miles.............

better known as the microfilter for the cabin - sorry. Here in the south it's the spring time pollen that clogs it up, so I erroneously refer to it as the pollen filter.
