modified my P46 cutoff shield *again*

This is how the standard P46's beam pattern looks like (pictured as the right car). The beam pattern is controlled by a cutoff shield located inbetween the projector lense on the reflector bowl.

That downward slope in the beam pattern left of the drivers side hinders light output. While this may reduce glare, OEM units do not do this, or at least not as severely which is why they OEM Bosch units have a wider spread of light.

Instead of making my own shield like I did in my past experiment with my own materials, I just dremeled the P46 shield to my liking. The only side I dremeled was the side that would light up to the left of the driver since the cutoff moves up to block light scattered in that direction. I also flatten the shield since it comes in a curved form that reduces sharpness gradually each side as you go from one end of the beam to the other. I would write a DIY, but I already did the modifications and its nearly impossible to go back

This is the beam pattern on just ONE projector headlight from P46 w/ modified cutoff shield

The beam pattern to the left of the slant is now perfectly straight now that I modified it. The picture directly above was taken about 45ft away. Sharpness is still evident from this distance as well as directly down the road.

I can write a DIY if you'd like, I'm just waiting on one more item before I do.

Wow, that's pretty cool BMW Loe. I don't really understand what part you are taking about when you say cutoff shield...

Beam shots with new bulbs (not color shifted yet). The clarity is amazing, and this is someone who's had OEM bosch units.

This shot was taken about 10-15ft from a garage wall. I completely recommend this modification for anyone with P46's, it brings a whole new meaning to the word forground lighting, distance, and width compared to w/o the modification. I'll do a DIY shortly.
