Has anyone retrofit bi-xenons onto a pre 2002 car?
If so, how? I sorta got mine to work but its a hack...
Since most of you probably know me on the forum, I have an 01 sedan. 2001 was the last year of the single xenon. In 2002, bi-xenon’s became an option. Anyhow, I facelifted my car, so I now use 02-05 sedan bi-xenon headlights. (before my car was facelifted, I had OEM xenon’s in my car, which were properly coded by the dealer). If you put bi-xenon’s into a car and do not do additional wiring, the OEM bi-xenon’s will function as single xenon’s. The halogen light will act as the flash-to-pass, as well as the high beam. This is how my car is functioning now. It is known that there is wiring that can be done to allow the bi-xenon functionality to work. ScottZHP first came up with the DIY on bimmerfest a while back: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46813 I've done this wiring, but do not have bi-xenon functionality, because my car is too old to accept the programming for it (by about 6 months). I had a very good, reliable indy shop look at it and try recoding the car, but the computer would not take the programming for "bi-xenon retrofit" at all.. So, the question is... Has anyone managed to recode their older car for bi-xenon’s? My indy shop thinks a number of components might need to be replaced in order to do so... My LCM was replaced last year, so that is not the issue... I'm wondering if the ECU, GM, etc may need updating as well. Interested if anyone else has done this? Perhaps someone with an 01 M3 has retrofitted bi-xenon’s? Thanks for any help. -Steve
