P46 Facelift w/DDE problems...pulsing lights
Hi guys. I am new here, I have searched for my particular P46 problem, but haven't seen any threads about this one.
OK, originally I tried to install a H7 HID kit in this car...I was able to modify the H7 bulb/9006 connector lampholders successfully and I thought everything would be OK. The HIDs worked for 2 days, no "Lamp Out" indications, etc etc. Then, one morning, one of the HID units started to blink rapidly. I thought it was the ballast, ignitor or bulb...so I swapped the kit with the kit on my personal car which also has 9006 connectors and I swapped the bulbs from left to right. Nothing fixed this prob. We went back to halogen and ordered the Umnitza P46 w/DDE and 6000K HIDs. Now I have installed these headlights, and at first everything was OK. I have absolutely no probs with the DDE's. But the HIDs started to act up after a few hours/times restarting the car. Now I get both headlights "Lamp Out" indication and when I turn on the HIDs, the drivers side "Lamp Out" stays lit. And occasionally, the HIDs pulsate from left to right for a few moments. Why do they pulsate?? It's kinda like when a cop car has his high beams alternating/flashing. WHY??? Makes no sense to me, can someone please help?? |

I forgot to mention that I know about the LCM reflash procedure. If I have that performed, will the high beams still function?? Would I be better off simulating a load on the headlight connectors using 50 watt resistors and relays to control the HID's?? The last option is what I am leaning to because I have a bunch of extra 9006 male and female connector I can whip up a load simulating harness with relays to control the HIDs....seems like the best idea if the LCM reflas would make the high beams inop

Mounting the resistors is a tough choice though because of the heat. |

I'm going to go for the reflash solution, try that out.

I'm gonna try out some load resistors first. I have some extra heatsink material laying around, I can whip up something nice enough for a BMW. BUT, my main quaestion that is puzzling me is, why are the lights pulsing?? The kit from Umnitza has ProLumen stuff, so I am guessing their quality is OK?? Oh, it wouldn't matter anyway because the kits I usually use do the same thing in the BMW as this kit. WHY WHY WHY?? aaarrrggghhhh it's soooo annoying, I thought these P46's were supposed to be plug and play with a possible warning light, I never anticipated or read on any forum that they would pulsate.

The reason they pulsate is that the LCM on your car is not setup to accept the xenons. Either a resistor pack or an LCM/ECU reflash will do the trick.

Everyone gives well-meaning advice, but it's NOT accurate. Sorry Nick and Jon, you guys were good but on this one, we need to do more testing.
Please contact us directly so we can try to perform some additional checks.
