A friend of mine had one and had the cops show up to his apartment. He was apparently shining the thing at airplanes coming into Lambert here in St. Louis. Needless to say, he no longer has the laser.

Apparently in most states, if an accident occurs because of the pointing of a laser, it is a felony.
In Quebec also, a teenager pointed a laser at a bus driver and went to jail because it caused the driver to crash.
I would imagine the FBI coming to your house if you distracted a airline pilot LOL

those aren't jungle boots...

jungle boots have nylon in the middle (instep and up the ankle/calf area), not leather. Plus danner boots are heavy as hell. If you're taking those into the jungle, your feet will be hotter than hell and wet, too. Hopefully they at least have eyelets on the insides of them for drainage and ventilation.

I think an aircraft pilot would be really hard-pressed to tell someone exactly where you lived if you were spotlighting aircraft with a laser pointer

Apparently they have some system to figure it out. Ive heard multiple stories of this happening before. I remember one where the guy tried to blame it on his kid before giving in and telling the truth.

I'd like to see the prosecution on that one... so many things wrong with this story

a laser is not visible traveling through air, no matter how powerful it may be. Only if there's a lot of dust (we see it here) or fog would you be able to see where the laser is originating from, and be able to see it's path of travel. And in that case, everything that the beam is traveling through will significantly reduce its range.

plus, the angle you'd have to get in order to actually shine a laser, from the ground, into a pilot's eyes...

remember that in an aircraft, the windows are on the top half of the fuselage, angled up. You'd either have to be looking at aircraft on the horizon (in which case, good luck finding a civilian laser that has that kind of range), or position a mirror on a blimp above the aircraft.

I call on this story

I know they're not really jungle boots. They're for the CHP academy and need to be all-leather so they can be shined.
