Exclamation 2007 BMW 3-series convertible unveiled

2007 BMW 3-series convertible unveiled
Quote:
BMW today released initial details on the 2007 3-Series convertible, which will go on sale early next year. The car will make its debut at the Detroit auto show in January. Like its coupe counterpart, the cabriolet will be offered in both 328i and 335i editions in North America, and 325i and 335i guises in Europe. BMW says the 306 horsepower 335i model will reach 62 mph in 5.8 seconds.

The model now comes with a three-piece electronically-operated retractable hard-top - a first for BMW. Because the roof features a larger rear glass windscreen and side windows, visibility has improved by 38 per cent compared to the outgoing model.

The initial photography released by BMW does not show the new convertible with its top up. More images are expected this week.

I think it's a cool idea but the roof looks waaay too choppy with all the hinge points. Maybe it won't be so noticeable on a darker color vert. Otherwise it's a nice looking car.

nasty... rag top would have been nicer-looking. I bet the 335i automatic convertible will pass 4,000 lbs. Think about it, they are usually 500 lbs. more than a coupe, auto 335i coupe is 3682+500 is over 4,000 lbs. That means it is heavier than a 650i! Great ultimate driving machine

Not good looking at all... The rear quarter panels are completely plain, it looks like they just put flat sheet metal panels on to cover the frame...

If the weight is gonna be over 4000 lbs and it looks like that, it should be redesigned already.

this is not what i would call a "cool look"

Why does BMW keep unveiling their cars in that ugly ass gold color? they did the same thing with the e46 coupe

fact of the matter is i will have to see it in person to judge if i really like it... for now im glad i have my convert..

I can do that with my car I thought the coupe was ugly...but damn the vert is not even worthy of being called a BMW.

You honestly think it looks better than your M3 vert?

I was right...

"Unladen weight of the new BMW 3 Series Convertible is approximately 400 lb above that of the BMW 3 Series Coupe. This extra weight results from the installation of additional support members in the floor and the electric motors and hydraulic elements required for the retractable hardtop."

4,082 lbs. for a 335i automatic with no options (Idrive ads about 50 lbs. by itself). That means it is heavier than an E60 M5.

Yep. The e46 verts weigh about 300 pounds more than their hardtop counterparts. I know my manual says that mine weighs 3606 lbs. I guess the hard folding top, and mechanism to support the extra weight over a soft top adds another 100 lbs to an already heavy car. Two tons is a lot of weight to pull around!!
