Is X5 Widescreen compatible with e46 ?

I currently have 4:3 nav mkiii in the car. I want to upgrade to widescreen.

Wondering whether the widescreen from X5 E53 compatible with Our car.

I did bait of search but not very conclusive.

Does anyone try this or know either way ?

My bit of a search shows it probably is compatible but the contours of the front are different.

I would not recommend this. Not only are the headunits for the X5 and different shape and size, the cavity in the dash of the X5 is different than in the E46, so you may run into clearance issues. If you have unit on hand to try it, go right ahead, but if you are looking for one to purchase, look for one specifically for the E46.

Worse still, the viewing angle of the X5 LCD is different, so it would look crap from the driver's seat.
