Try plugging something else in with a standard 3.5mm mini-jack output to establish if your AUX input works?

Then research if maybe there's something non-standard about these Apple devices?

Some devices for example might have multiple contacts inside the 3.5mm socket for remote control functions that a standard 3.5mm plug may short out?

My Nokia phone has an extra contact/band on it's headphone extension cord's 3.5mm plug for example to enable the remote control to work, luckily it still seems to work ok if you insert a standard 3.5mm plug.

I can CONFRIM that my iPhone 3G-S works with my AUX input. (iPod/internet radio)

I do not have any resistors or anything on my aux input cable. I am going to be installing a GLI to my aux cable though, so I can power my iPhone while playing music from it. The TOMTOM app for iphone kills the battery. 30 minute trip, the battery is dead.

Aux input switching off.

I built the original cable in this thread and it worked fine with my iPod touch as long as it was plugged in. When I unpluged it the AUX would switch to the SAT radio which was OK with me until I bought a Griffin Autopilot for charging and play control. It wouldn't work at all. I couldn't switch to AUX. So today I read through all the stuff about the cable with the resistor and the two caps inline and I found on the original German page run through Google translate that this circuit is in the end of the OEM cable to trigger the AUX and isolate it from connected items to keep them from turning it off. So I built one and it works perfect with the Griffin Autopilot controller. So it should also work with the iPhone. The AUX is always available even without anything pluged in which is not what I had before. I didn't use a circuit board, just crimped then soldered everything inline then covered it all with heat shrink. So, all you need is two .22uf caps inline on the two signal wires and one 330K ohm resistor across the two signal wires on the radio side of the caps and that will trigger and isolate it.

I bought the capacitors, resistors, a stereo audio wire, and a plug. I had to buy a $6 resistor kit to get the 330k Ohm one, but whatever. Total is about $20, but at this point, I'm doing it more to get it done myself than to save a great deal as compared to the BMW Aux Kit.

Looking forward to doing this.

Maybe something is different in the EU cars but I couldn't make it work. I am very experienced with electronics, I've built several amplifiers/dacs/power supplies etc but this DIY wouldn't work. I tried with and without the resistors and caps but at no point did I get AUX on the CD Player, even with a device connected.

In the end I bought the original cable and it worked first time. I have a 2004 M3. I have read at least one other with an EU car having the same problem so maybe something to look out for. The pin out on the BMW is the same but I was unable to mesure the resistance for some reason, it appeared pretty much open circuit.

Mine's a UK Nov'04 model, business CD player (no autochanger).

Simply clipping a 300k resistor between pins 8 & 9 then switching on enabled the aux mode to appear when cycling with the "mode" button.

I use my AUX in with iPhone 3G-S 32G everyday.

To charge, you need to install a Ground-Loop Isolator in the audio line.

Ok here is what i had to do.....
I first plugged the leads into the HD and then into my Iphone....Aux would not show.

I then installed a 330k resistor and aux showed but as soon as i plugged the iphone in, it would switch off.

I then installed 2 x .22uf capacitors inline as advised by ab0234.

Now when i plug my iphone in everything is working great.

Problem solved for iphones.

Hey I'm wondering if this will work with the following CD player:

http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthr...=#post10729769

2002 325i
Alpine
Jan/02 build date.

SW/NO 41
HW/NO 43

I want to have an aux. input AND an ipod link with my headunit. I currently have the 2001 no-mode-button radio. What's the best way of going about this? Buying this deck for $100, then an ipod link as well (I-Simple or USA-Spec), or just getting some other interface with both an aux.-in and an ipod link to work with my current radio?

Does anyone know what are all the hidden options for ?

if you hold the "m" button for 10 seconds, you can scroll through few things such as SW version etc like someone pointed out, you can change the values for each setting using the 1-6 buttons.

Does anyone know what all of them are ?

I was so far able to figure out that my stereo was in the USA mode so I switched it to Canada (dont think it matters much anyway)

EDIT: nevermind, I found it: http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/a...rvice_mode.pdf

I believe you can, it will show CD1 instead of the AUX,

I think it just fools it to think it's a CD changer. ?

So...is there a way for someone like myself who's:
- HU is an 03/02 with SW xx-xx-41
- Got no CD changer to even do the cable detailed in this thread http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=427248

to have some sort of AUX capability without resorting to the BMW Kit, or DICE or whatever else there are which requires dishing out a good sum of money?

Please help...there's got to be someone out there whom might stumbled upon something that works for relatively cheap.

TIA!

I just finished this project, took me about 2-3 hours cause i never took apart anything inside my car. It was fun, i love these types of projects; cheap and effective!

Thank you!!!
