I have the HU with the cassette player. Is the Ipod adaptor kit the only way to get an aux cable hook up? Is there any way to just use the wiring for the cassette player instead? Electronics isn't really my thing so I don't know if i'm completely in over my head with this idea...

Also, if the Ipod adaptor kit is the only way, where would be the cheapest place to purchase this?...

AUX or MODE button?
My 01 came with an 03 Headunit installed by PO. You might have a newer HU too. Just check the Software version, and you will have to rig up the cable and test it to see if it will work.

I made a basic aux cable without caps and registers. It works great except the audio pops and cracks when Pandora buffers the next song or between songs on media player. Has anyone had this issue?

Hi Guys

I have just finished this DIY Aux cable & it is fantastic. The audio quality is perfect and I can still charge the phone using the cig lighter whilst playing music.

I went & purchased the gear from JAYCAR which cost me a total of $12!!

Aux cable,
2 x 0.22uF 100v Capacitors,
1 x 330k Ohm 1w Resistor,
Heat shrink wrap.

The 2 plugs I used for the rear of the HU were from an old PC & were the thin LED POWER plugs. 1 fitted perfectly onto pins 8 & 9, the other onto 4 for the ground.

Very much worth the effort, I have the 3.5mm jack coming out beside the steering wheel with my phone in a phone holder. It's great there as the phones mic pics up ur voice well during phone calls.

Thanks from Australia!!

So I'm reading that this will work on any business CD unit made after 09/2002. Has anyone tried putting in a post 09/2002 in their pre 03 cars? Any speculations as to if this would work?

^ Yes. You can replace older CD or tape HUs with newer models. In some instances you will need an adaptor for the antenna, but that should be it.
