depends what series of subs you compare

like a high end rockford would be better than a lower series JL

well, comparing the same series. Maybe a 10" top of the line JL v.s a 10" top of the line RF.

A JL 10W6V2 will destroy any top of the line 10" Rockerford in my opinion (don't even ask about a 10W7). Even a JL 10W3V2 would be better. JL Audio is a higher end sub and worth the difference in price. You can get some great deals off of Ebay for these subs.

They sound totally different. I reccomend putting the time in to try and hear both before you make up your decision. I personally don't like the W7's. I'm getting two HX2 RF's 12's each getting 1000watts RMS and I know I'll like them better than the JL's.

Just listen to both before you decide.

Those HX2 12's will pump some serious RMS. What kind of box and amps will you use?

I'll be using two Fosgate 1000.2 amps, each one will be supplying 1000 watts rms, 2000 peak.

As far as the box, I'm just gonna have a nice little enclosure made in the trunk.

You will have that trunk jumping. Man, that is a lot of power to have in your trunk. How will you cut down the vibration?

I'm planning on dynamatting the whole trunk, all the doors, and maybe the flooring of the car.

I'm probably only gonna be able to listen to it on level 2 while inside the car

Well, you figure they gotta take the doors apart to replace those speakers already anyways, so that's a big part. The trunk, yup, a pain in the A&&. And maybe I'll get the flooring and roof done, who knows??

FYI: JL Audio will not honor the warranty if you purchase it online.

True. However, some of the sellers will. Have to be carefull and make sure the seller has a return policy and/or warranty. Check their feedback also, if they do this for a living then very safe...........especially for a sub (very few electronic parts), its not like a head unit. I have purchased an Infinity kappa Perfect 10" brand new in box for $125, and a JL 12W3V2 brand new in box for $134. Very happy with purchase.........its a compfort zone thing. Also, purchase amount matters. The more expensive the item, the more risk if product has a problem.
