New Tires/Wheels - Do I need to do anything else?

I just made the following changes to my 2001 330xi:

Wheels - changed from 17" to 18"
Tires - changed from 205/55/17's to 225/40/18's

A couple of people have recently asked me if I need to make "any changes to the computer?". I guess the theory goes that BMW sets the car up to run on 17" wheels/tires. Does anyone know if I need to make any other adjustments for the car to run at max. performance?

make sure you get some Tire Pressure Sensors for the new wheels.

Nope you are ready to go. You keep the overall wheel diameter the same so there will be no issues

Unless your factory wheels come with them, you won't need them.

If I moved from 17" to 18" wheels doesn't that mean I've changed wheel diameter?

well yes, by mm...but nothing significant... the amount gained by the larger wheel is corrected by the amount taken away from the tire...

note the sidewall is smaller on the new setup compared to that of the old setup.

Wheels, yes.

Tires, not exactly.

2001 330Xi should have 205/50/17 as standard factory tire size. Not sure why you have 205/55/17...

Diameters:
205/55/17 = 25.9 inch
205/50/17 = 25.1 inch
225/40/18 = 25.1 inch

As you can see, the 18-inch set up has the same diameter as the factory. Your current tire size (if it wasn't a typo) is taller than factory.
