Yes, you can stuff 20s on that think easily.
HOWEVER, the E46 used 30-45 offset, E38s use lower offsets, like ET 30-15, so you're most likely going to need spacers, or you'll not only look tucked like a school bus, but chances are you'll rub on the inside, on suspension components.

the they'll still look tucked, but may not rub like E46 wheels might. the E90 and E46 basically run the same offset fronts, but the E90 rears are closer to what you'll need.
if i was to guess, id bet youd still need spacers.

E39s uses a bigger hub, our cars, and yours, and almost every other BMW uses a 72.Xmm. You will need hubcentric spacers, or you risk the wheel not being centered on the hubface of your car.
the offsets or E39s and E38s are similar tho, but understand, these are OEM wheels and will have very moderate offset, so they will looked tucked under most likely.

That looks like style 5 wimz. Nothung wrong with them the way they are. Those look great. The problem is the size of them suckaz look like spares on that big ass car.
But some spacers and extended bolts to widen your track and push them out from under the cars a bit, would enhance the look a lot.

That's what I'm saying, they look like spares. Too small. If I were you man, I'd search and search and find you some 18" style 5s that came on the E38s for that short 2 year period.
If you're gonna switch rims, don't waste time with anything less than 18s, as you won't even notice a difference looking at it.
You should be on bf.c. Those guys flip rims constantly, but you need to find out what width and offsets work, and look the phattest, and aim for those.
