screw you all, I'm just getting air jacks for the car and a bottle of compressed air. Then I have a lift anywhere... just please dont look up the costs of a good air jack system...

Question for you guys with E46 M3s or know anything about them. I know what a Valve adjustment is and how often they need to be adjusted. So heres my question, how hard is the operation of doing one? How long does it take to do? thanks

The adjustment is part of Inspection I and II I (I think). At my current schedule I did Insp II (with adjustment) last Feb. 15000 miles later, the car got a lookover and an oil change. 15000 miles from that will be an Insp I (with adjustment), then an oil change, then Insp II, etc...

I am not sure if that is exactly how it is supposed to work, but that is what I plan.

When I had the first adjustment done I was told it really wasn't even needed as the clearances were more or less good. My car had been maintained perfectly by the previous owners at their BMW dealership, but I don't know if the service was done before I owned the car (I bought it with 69k miles I think.)

yeah 9' was the lowest clearance two-post I saw. The majority are in the 11-12' range.

When Cory did that E34 meet in NC, and i stopped by, the dude had a 3/4 Million dollar home, and it was a very nice community.
he had a 2 car garage, and one side had a lift.
this was a 1 weekend deal, and he wasnt making profit, but a nosey neighbor snitched and he got a letter from the HOA, and they essentially reminded that, working on cars in his driveway (there were like 7 bimmers there) was against the rules, and that action could be taken. IIRC, he contacted his lawyer and consulted the rule book, and basically it said if he broke the rule so many times, then after x amount they could take legal action.

So thats just what ive seen on one occasion, i can go on and on about what these hating ass nosey people do, ive had/seen it done at bike meets and a few car meets. At some point a nosey neighbor is going to notice whats going on or a trend, and he would get a letter basically tell him to knock it off or else.

i didn't mean profit...nor a "written charge." donations in the amount of $10 an hour for the use of my facilities (be it a FROG, bathroom, shower, lift, whatever) to better the property would be the unspoken rule. but until i hit that 35-5k number w/ the "donations..." there technically wouldn't BE a profit. and when i said fucc HOA's, i mean like i don't want to live w/in an HOA community. i love the benefits of the neighborhood not going to shite and all, but i don't want someone elses permission to have whatever mailbox i want. and i don't want someone saying i can't have a shed in my back yard. or if i want my grass to be 3" instead of their mandated 2"....get my point? but you all make very valid points. and it seems that most would be willing/interested/want to drive to williamsburg to work on their car on a "free" lift w/ good company. not to mention the kegerator that would always be full...

I work on my car in my driveway and garage, even painted my car once too. My neighborhood is pretty chill, I'm usually banging away on metal at like 8 but once it's dark I usually wrap up with the noise making. I'm glad I don't live in an HOA community and my parents' friend has a shed and lift that he charges people to work on their cars but I'm pretty sure it's under the table so nobody will find out. No paper trails means no evidences so no legal action can be taken upon anyone.

Do it! I've always thought Hockenheim was an awesome track, one of my favorite GPs to watch.

Anybody know a good GM shop in Williamsburg? I really don't feel like learning anything about this car that I hate so much, but it's having issues, something to do with the mixture (no check engine light, so I'm guessing no codes, but it hates life at idle and on starting).

As much as I would like to, given that my MB hasn't run in two months thanks to a semi-custom part I've been waiting on (and promised multiple times...), I kinda need it.

Eh, honestly, it's not that bad a vehicle. At least is has character, unlike a Toyota. To be fair to it, it is 15 years old and has gotten minimal maintenance. Plus, it's an Oldsmobile, so that makes it a collector right there...right?

So stopped by a powdercoat shop in newport news. Wants 250 to do my spare valve cover. wtf? I've never heard of a valve cover costing that much, he did say though it would be cheaper if I prepped/degreased it as much as I could before hand. Anyone have good idea on what to use to get this thing clean?
