You'll have a hard time finding one in good condition for that cheap just saying.

Throw a peanut in his mouth, it'll ruin the gum. Or pat him on the back so hard that he swallows it.

I suggest in the future you carry altoids. They're candy-like enough that people won't be offended as if you offered them a listerine strip, but they avoid the chews-like-a-cow problem.

I didn't say I was trying to SPEND that much on a good condition e30. I SAID I would never spend over that much for a high mileage one. I WOULD NEVER BUY ANY CAR OVER 120k.

My 1970 cutlass - 32,000 miles
750iL- 96,000
740iL-88,000
323i-First purchased at 118,000
Salvaged ///M5- 52,000

The only reason why it was declared salvaged is because the flood storm that hit louisiana and mississippi etc etc. The car was flooded, and the guy took the car in for repairs. He sent me all of the receipts for repair work. The car runs like new. I haven't seen or experienced a problem yet and I've ran it hard all day here in my garage with it lifted off the ground.

Besides, I don't understand how there was any damage done to the vehicle when it was not running when it was under water. He said he let the vehicle dry before turning it over and it seemed fine but he took it in for repair anyway.

Like I said, I've run it hard all day yesterday and today...no problems.

Salvage title explains 15k for M5 with 52k miles.

Oh, ok, I thought it got salvaged after you bought it lol. I was never one to care about salvage titles or accidents. If it was repaired right, it was repaired right.

I saw a very very clean classic diesel benz today...guy was on 664. I took the m5 out for the first time and drove to downtown hampton to see my sister. I think it was a 240 benz diesel or something like that.

Maaaan, it was clean as hell. not a flaw.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't care if someone hands me the keys to a E39 M5 for free. Considering a brake pads and rotors alone on those are $1,100 for a set, tires go for $300-900 a piece just for the fronts and don't get me started on aftermarket products...

My dad had 2 240Ds. 3 if you count the first one that was a 4-speed manual. He had only driven manuals until then (unless you could the 1968 Firebird he had until 1970), but the 240D was so underpowered that he exchanged it for an auto after 2 weeks (happily the dealership had a customer who wanted a manual but didn't want to wait for a special order, so they traded him straight up despite the 2 weeks of use). That first auto he flipped at the 80mph top speed (hit a patch of sheet ice, when the ice stopped, the car was sideways, and getting that instant grip caused it to roll several complete revolutions). It landed in a ditch, He and his friends got out, rolled it onto its wheels, had a tow trunk yank it out of the ditch, and drove it from Ohio to DC, where he traded it in on a new one. The roof was banged up and the windshield had a crack in it but held together. Things are slow as tanks, but also tough as tanks.

I bet you can get cheaper and better brake parts on the aftermarket, no? Centric probably has something.

oem suspension for the m5 will kill your pockets
oem catalytic converter will kill your pockets
oem angel eyes (that tend to go bad) will kill your pockets
oem oxygen sensor " "
etc etc

and the bad part about having the e39 m5 is...you have to replace everything twice. which sucks.

*like the air mass sensors...there are two of them because the intake boot splits into two CAI's.*

IB, you say OEM cat like maybe you haev an aftermarket solution? The cats went on my brother's 540, he put on some aftermarket cats. It will pass the sniffer portion of the test, but fails simply because of the check engine light. It was verified that the light is because the post-cat O2s don't consider the cats to be effective enough. Any suggestions?

oem cat or you have to go to a more drastic solution for it. SPARK plug foulers, or one of those engine computer dummy things that fools the computer to think that the cats are still in place.

The oxy sensor after the cat is the most important...it will know that the cat is gone.

The two sensors have to read exactly the same language, the first cat has to sense o2 in the exhaust, and the second has to make sure it's maintained the same levels after flowing thru the catalyst.
