Yeah nice car, but I think buying stock cars is more fun/reliable.
Unless it's a RAV4. Both door froze today, then when opened wouldn't close again. Figured it out, it's due to a poor design of the latching mechanism on all the old RAVs. Sprayed the hell out of everything with teflon spray, hopefully will be good for the next few cold weeks.

My lock froze this morning on the M3 (I dont have the key fob) I had to run my key under warm water to unlock my car today. And some how I developed an exhaust leak overnight, I drove the car on Friday night....didn't drive at all on Saturday, started it up Sunday afternoon to go to a super bowl party and it felt and sounded like I had an exhaust system installed overnight. I'm going to throw it on the lift at lunch or after work today and see where its coming from. It feels like it its right under the front seats.

That sounds just like mine, when I was at speed driving to work this morning it wasn't noticable. Only starting up the car, pulling away from stop lights and signs.

I'm hoping it goes away when it warms up. It's also funny hearing the sunroof and doors crack from the ice breaking when I pull in/out of driveways. I feel bad leaving her out in the snow this weekend and this is payback.

I always keep mine locked in the garage, but even with the cold it was a rough start this morning. Took a few seconds to even out the idle. I can't wait for this stuff to be done. Potentially moving to Austin in the Fall, back to a climate with slightly less winter.
Did your exhaust leak noise go away once the car warmed up? Could be at one of the flanges where it heats up enough to expand once you are driving.

I havent really driven it far enough to tell yet, if I don't see anything wrong when I put it on the lift, then I will go for a drive tonight and find out.

My sounded like it was coming from the roof, either the sunroof inards or the motion sensor box.
Ok, I see he updated the list. Have you tried getting that sound deadening material out yet? I think I'm gonna give it a shot tonight. I'm hoping that it's so cold that it makes it brittle and just comes out with ease.

The 335's are almost nearing the price of a E46 M3, I saw one for like $25-6 the other day.

I could have sworn you said you were running 5w-30 royal purple. IMHO, 10w-30 is too thick when cold for that car in the winter (given that BMW specifies 5w year round). Go to a 5w-40. I know Mr. M Car uses 5w-40 amsoil euro in the 540i and he knows his stuff. It might very well quiet down the tapping. 10w-30 is not thicker regardless btw, it's thicker than 5w-40 when cold and thinner than 5w-40 when hot. |
