Lighting Options - I'm Confused

Hi guys,

All right, I have read A LOT of posts, but am still relatively confused. Can anyone help me with these questions:

1. What is the difference between HID, Xenon, and Bixenon?
2. Are all HIDs considered "projectors"?
3. How the hell do angel eyes work? Are they worth it?
4. What are the costs of each option?

I have stock halogens. I have Sylvania Silverstars in my fogs...nice and bright and white. I just blew a bulb in one of my DRLs and was going to replace with Sylvania Silverstars, but wanted to learn my options.

Thanks,
NicB.

HID = High-Intensity Discharge. It's the same thing as Xenon. Xenon is the gas used in HID bulbs. BiXenon refers to the headlights that have two xenon bulbs in them. The older style headlights had one xenon bulb and one halogen bulb (for drl and high flash). The new are both xenon bulbs.

Projector refers to the lense on the headlamp. I'm not willing to say "all" HID headlights are projectors, but at least the majority are. The projector is the spherical part of the headlight.

Angel eyes are CCFL (cold-cathode fluorescent light) tubes. They mount around the reflector of your lights and are lighted by an inverter designed for fluorescent lights. As for their worth, that is up to you.

I'm not sure what the cost of the options are, you'll need to find that on your own. But, converting your car from halogen to HID will be a few hundred at least. I'd say about $500 at a guess...

sstainba covered it all.

You have a couple of options for angel eyes. If you are satisfied with your stock halogen output you can just retrofit our Predator Chromium angel eyes into your stock housings for $199.99.

However, I recommend you go with our Projector46 headlight upgrade which is a complete headlight replacement that swaps out your stock halogens for projector based xenons with built in and preinstalled Predator series angel eyes.

Here are the product pages for more information, please contact us with any questions that may arise.

HID=Xenon

however, in a projector sense, Xenons mean that you have lowbeams that are xenon and highs are halogen.

Bixenon does not refer to headlights that has 2 xenon bulbs. instead, for the high beam function, a shutter in your lowbeam is opened letting more light out. so your highbeam and lowbeam are the same. flash to pass is still the inner halogen.

costs:
HID kit (xenon, no projectors) ~ 150+
regular xenon projectors (like p46s, or some oem) ~ 500+
angel eyes (predators) ~ 200

if you want my recommendation. go with p46s if you want angel eyes, xenons, and projectors all in one kit. check out Nick's links above. that's all you need.

Thanks guys, I think I get it now. I would love to put some HIDs in, but for now, I have other mods that need done (clears, shark, CAI), so I'll settle for the Silverstars. They are relatively cheap and I can pick them up at Autozone.

I appreciate the feedback...one more mod to add to my list.
