My latest install inside

So, I've never been shy about showing my installs, what did work, what didn't - so why stop now - get ready, this one is going to be an interesting experiment!

Here's the ride (nice work on the porta crapper in the back eh... )

So I decided that the theme of this install is stealth and integration. Essentially, I don't want to see a piece of gear, but if I do, I want it to look as oem as possible.

So let's start with an equipment list:

Alpine TME-M740BT - 7" wide/touch screen w/bluetooth
Alpine VPA-B222 - Vehicle Hub Pro
Alpine NVE-N872A - DVD Navigation
Alpine CHA-S624 - 6 Disc Changer w/ Optical
Alpine PXA-H701 - Multimedia Processor
Alpine KCE-422i - High-Speed iPod cable
Alpine PDX-4.150 - Front Stage Amplifier
Alpine PDX-1.1000 - Subwoofer Amplifier
SEAS RS165F - Lotus Reference Components (Active)
JL Audio 8IB4s (4) - 8" IB Subwoofers

So, as you can see, that's 10lbs of $&^! to put in a 5lb bag

And onto the install....

Now, my car started off as non factory, but I scored the parts from a fellow fanatic - Open up the door and this is what we get - nice space for alpine goodies

Peel back the carpeting, and this is the mounting system:

Well, that's a start...a ton of mdf brackets, hacking away at the oem bracket, and a few iterations later (with a crazy install procedure) we get to this:

And if we replace the carpet and take a look at the results, I'd say it's looking ok

There's just barely enough room back there for the gear + the MILES of wire needed ton install all of this stuff. You can also see the speaker wires from my previous install back there.

This is going to be interesting, but so far so good.

I still need to go back and sound deaden, but I wanted to get the brackets started first so I can measure for wires and this will lead me to installing the amps. Right now, I'm just test fitting the amps.

After the amount of installs that I've done in this trunk, the spare tire well was looking a little ratty - I had some Stinger Road Kill Spray sitting around, so I threw down a few coats, that you can see in the background.

Now these PDX's are small, but my spare tire well is even smaller - and they have to fit under the factory floor - about 2" of clearance - this should be interesting:

And that's it for right now...more tomorrow hopefully

Looks great! Keep taking photos and keep us posted on progress.

I have much of the same Alpine equipment and plan to relocate some of it from the spare tire well to the area under the changer. I'm interested in seeing your wiring there once it's all done. Thanks for providing updates.

What are you planning to do with the subs? Through the rear deck or the back seat?

Nice one, I am planning to do a vehicle hub/TME-740BT install in the next month or two so this thread is just what I need.

If I may be forward enough to make requests, I am particularly interested in how you connect the radio antenna and other minor wiring issues.

When I am doing mine I will be sure to reciprocate with some install pics of my own.

subs will be through the rear shelf

Titan - I'll cover/document all of those things - this will be a sort of diy for installing the hub in this car. I won't cover every little step (such/how I mounted the hub) but I'll cover all of the wiring.

Thanks rcurley. Physical mounting won't be an issue, and as I have no plans to add a changer or processor I will have more than enough space. My concerns would be how you connect to the OEM antenna (do you go back up to the dash or connect it direct to amplifier in C pillar?), and how you mount/connect the IR repeater and SWI controller if you will be using those.

I don't know how long the wiring harness is for the VPA, but I don't know of a switched 12V source in the trunk (I don't have an OEM amp there). I am sure I can figure something out, but still interested how you and others tackle it.

Nice! What did you use for sound deadening in the spare tire area?

yes, it's been far too long. the zapco setup was nice, but it lacked nav, lacked ipod integration, and it just grated on me to see speakers all abound.

then alpine released the vehicle hub pro - and well....you know how that goes.

I really like the PPI arts you had.

Actually, you should have more than 2" of clearance for the amps if you are willing to build a new spare tire well cover. You should have a lot more room.

The arts were fun, but they had to go. I'm trying to avoid the new spare tire well cover - this car will look about 95% stock when all is said and done - sleeper at it's best
