stereo experts HELP!

Ok I went to the audio place yesterday to get a quote to hook up 2 amps & my sub box, they quoted me $450!!!that sounds like bullshit, so anyway, I had just pulled all the amps & the box out of my old POS & it was all already hooked up, I looked at the wires & i found the two that go to the subs & the two that go to my front speakers, now the confusing thing is my crossover has two rca plugs that say input, Im assuming that this runs from my head unit. Am I missing something? do most head units have two rca jacks I can just plug into & thats it?? do I need an adapter for my oem head unit or would it be easier to buy an aftermarket one & kit & just plug it in. Maybe Im retarded & looking at this wrong

maybe its a mids and highs X-over. you need a line out adapter to hook the amps up to the stock system.

If you have a high end head unit, it may come with 2 to 3 pairs of RCA outputs. Front/Rear/Sub. So just direct them to the crossover RCAs.

In the other case, you have a preamp with a builtin crossover. in that case its a lot more complicated. you'd have to direct the signals to the preamp and then to the amp, then to the specific speaker.

Chances are your component speakers have passive crossovers. You can have one wire going from your amp to the crossover, and your tweeter/midrange/woofers will be split at the crossover.

Get another quote. My place charged me $120 for 2 amps, plus $150 for a 1.5 cu. ft sealed box flush mounted and matched to the trunk of the car.

For another $200, they put the amps in the spare tire wheel well encased in a plexiglass-covered housing with neon lights and two cooling fans. Not too bad I guess.

I'll have pics soon.
