Does anyone have, verifiable, believable proof?

I find it funny how obsessed people are with oil changes.
Yes, it's better to change it more often than the manual says but less than 6K miles for full synthetic is just wasting money.

Your right lab rat. The automotive advise flooding the internet is almost as foolish as the political nonsense from people calling themselves patriots.

My friends on the Corvair forum thought the same thing.

Makes me think of the folks that claim to change their oil every 3000 miles (I'm old), and I look at the filter, and it's all rusty...

I suppose there's a requirement for short trip/winter/dusty conditions, which a high percentage of cars prolly meet...

The BMW has a comparatively huge oil sump and a great filter set up, combined with a requirement to run excellent oil. My turbo Subaru has a tiny sump, a pathetic oil filter you could probably swallow whole and it exposes the oil to very high heat in the center section of the turbo. Now that requires frequent changes (and the factory insists on it).

Too bad someone from the factory isn't commenting here...

Engine wear isn't an opinion. If the oil were degrading and causing engine damage then there would be a clear trail of junk BMW engines to show for it. The record shows otherwise.
Changing oil is kinda like washing your car. It may not make it run better, but clean is good. Just look at the inside of my engine w 158k. When the paperwork arrives from the dealer, I'll contact the PO's, and see what the intervals were... It would be nice to drive the car, but dealer forgot a document, and he wants $100 for his services, and why should I pay him for screwing up, and there it stands

My Ride: slower than yours
Mine is sitting at 207k.

Might have done roughly 8k changes.. sometimes ran the mileage counter into negatives. All depends on time constraints. Kinda stick to letting the meter go to 7-8k nowadays.

7500 miles.

I've always run Mobil 1 10W40 Synthetic High Mileage. HTHS value of 3.9 and ACEA A3/B3 rating make it comparable to LL01 stuff.

Next OCI I'll try out the BMW stuff.
