What happened to the German look?

Is this what we have to look forward to?? It looks like a Lexus! Of course we're years away, but if this is any sign of what it will look like, I am disappointed.

2010 is still a long time away, in terms of design finalizations. I bet you they change a whole bunch of things around before it hits the market.

unless it's in a press release, or spy photo, I'm not buying it. Plus, it's a "sportier" look than the 3er, which wouldn't make sense.

Yeah it is hard to tell who looks like who though. My dad worked for toyota/lexus for 10 years and he admits they have been copying the germans for years. I read in a current article the only real innovative thing they have done for the automotive industry is the hybrid car. HAHAHAHA and i could care less for those.

edit: I do think that BMW has lost some of it's German look also, while audi has not. Strange that audi's have been looking better and better to me lately.

Yeppers. I think it has a lot more to do with Lexus copying the Germans than the Germans copying the Japanese.

The Japanese have been known for years not for innovation, but for copying others ideas and improving on them.

I think I'm the only one, but I absolutely hate that gawd awful massive "grill" Audi has now!! Reminds me of a Chrysler!! The A8 is the worst.

I actually like that one much more than the current E60. The butt looks a little Benz-ish, and I really like the overall shape. Very nice.

It may sound strange because that 2010 car has the sporty look, but I think even the new e90+ models have lost that characteristic aggressive look. In the past, and even in the performance minded e46, there has been this look that makes the car appear well built and classy, but still looks like it could tear up a track...And usually can. Not to say that the new models don't often outperform the previously mentioned, but they look as though a teenage girl would call it, "Pretty." Maybe the new look will grow on me, but the classic aggressive Bimmer visual "growl" just seems to have been lost in a meeting somewhere.

E46 looks the best, and its a total waste to have introduced the newer looking models. It looked so German in the E46, and now its just another American/ Japanese car.

I am going to buy 2 low mileage loaded E46 when I have money to spend the rest of my life driving them.

Yeah, a total waste. Of course introducing the E46 was a total waste. And introducing the E36 was a total waste....and the E30....If BMW had really known what they were doing they would still be producing the E21 today!!

wonder what the interior will look like. it seems like MB and BMW are really cutting corners with interior design/quality, while volkswagen/audi keeps getting better

I took my '02 325i to a dealership a few weeks back. While they were working on it, I was checking out the new models in the showroom.

A) I hated the way the new ones looked, which was a good thing, because I didn't have $75,000 to spend.

B) The dealership couldn't figure out how to fix my outside temp sensor (it was gone). I think they really just wanted to get my lowly piece-o-crap E46 out of the way so they could work on the newer $75,000 cars that they were selling.

If this 5er is an indication of the styling direction next gen 3er, I can't wait. IMO, this car is MILES ahead of the current 3/5/7 designs.

Like many out there, I think I may pick up a newer E46 and wait for the next gen. Hope they don't totally F**K up the interior like the e90's.

Gorgeous wheels too! I'd buy those tomorrow if they were available.

This is not a rendition of the nest 5er. It's a concept rendition of the next 3er.

Actually the side-rear profile look very good.

This angle shot of this photoshop/artist rendering has a lot of E46 influences for me. I like this better than the current e90's trunk area.
