And this will be the inner-ring, what goes in the grill.
First he mild a MDF wooden ring and rounded the edges. What you see now is the upperside. Comes in CF btw

this is the bottomside. You see he made some screwbusses in it.

He made an alu ring of 3mm thick for on the bottomside. Must be very solid so the grill can't bend in the middle.

Here you see the 2 parts on each other. Between there's 2mm place for the innox plate on the outside, and the alu from in the centre

Then this will be the alu piece that goes in the middle of the grill.

He started by milling a big Focal logo. He didn't like it at first. So he decided to mild some more little Focal logo's.
He feels like it's a bit overdone now, but mayb it'll seem more beautifull when it's all finished. Maybe it'll change even a third time
worked 12hours for this alu focal logo's ...

The middle ring going into Carbon Fibre. Need some more layers of epoxy though..

.

Now you have to see, the inox with the little wholes in it, must be chromed, and the middle plate isn't finished also.
It's hard to make a nice picture of this.
If wanted, i'll post some pics of the finished result of the rings/box/ mounted in the car. (i'll tell you, it's SWEET ! )

Wow I can't believe this is the first time I've seen this thread. First of all I must say Awesome job on paying attention to detail! Thats the difference between half assed workmanship and doing things the right way.
Can't wait to see the finished result.

I liked it better without the logo in the middle, but it's now more showy

All of your progress threads have been absolutely awesome!!!

I like the double ring CF cover, but I think the centre part would look better if it was perspex/ plexiglass with the Focal logo cut out or laser etched into it - That way you'd also still be able to see all of the awesome work that has gone into the sub enclosure itself!!

Thank you for sharing it all!!

He made some pics with blue neon.
It's just to see what it could look like.
all lighting was good to test
The lighting too will be a hell of a job. He doens't want to see dark spots, where the neons stops... More stuff to think about then

Some pics withour the grill

This pic is fancy, look at the light reflection

Here some with the grill, but left the alu plate with the focal logo's out.

He put some silver foil on the alu, to give it a more shiny effect . but this won't stay!

the vent's will stay like they are now. The chrome gives a nice reflection of the neon.

give us your comments

so freakin NICE!!! I vote that there be no cover at all, just leave the ring the way it is! I think the metal cover takes away from the whole project and makes it too busy...simple is more...

so SIK!!!
