8" midbass in front doors

I just got a pair of DLS Iridium 8 mids.

Yeah, they're awesome and all but... at 8" diameter and 2.75" deep (small magnet though), is there any way they'll fit in the stock location after modification ?

I'd hate having to cut up the door panels and lose the OEM look (theft).

(http://www.keepersaudio.com/adls.html >>> it's the midbass of the 8.2 system)

In an e46 coupe? No way. The depth is there, but I had to seriously hack up a 7" driver to get it to fit behind the factory door panel...
(This is a Seas L18RNX/p)

You'll have cut into the door pocket area so it will take quite a bit of effort. It might be worth it though.

I'm keeping my car as close to stock as I can...for that reason I'm happy with a 6.5" driver in the door.

I can't even fit a peerless exclusive 7 inch with a depth of 3" even with cut doors

As I said...you can fit anything anywhere. Depends on how committed you are.

I guess you aren't THAT committed to getting those wonderful peerless 7s in your door

Yeah, the Peerless 7's are about the same size as the Seas L18RNX/P's but I am not about to tell anybody that it can be done. LOL That was hell getting them in, and in the end, the driver backplate is resting against the nut holding the window track to the inner door panel.

Thanks for the heads up people, now I know it's not going to be a walk in the park.

Oh it will be. My caraudio dealer ( http://www.caraudiotuning.be/Patrick...20Evo%20I.html , that's his old setup though... he has a new boot build now) has a pair of these in his competition vehicle, and the subs turned off he can still hit 128 on a termlab. Just those twin 8s in his doors playing... Best damn midbass I've ever heard. They totally annihilate his old midbass setup (Dynaudio MW190) and a pair of Koda 6 doesn't even come close.

Like bigjae said anything is possible. Just don't think you can get speakers more than 2.5 inches deep to fit without major work.

I think sedans must have less of a clearance, because i was missing a good inch even without using the stock grill piece with my peerless.

I think the max depth is somewhere around 3-1/4" in a coupe if you cut the metal in the door.
