Fast food workers want a minimum wage hike

How do you feel about fast food workers striking because they feel entitled to more money for their job?

Do you think $15 per hour is reasonable?

I got paid $15/hr to do my stats research. If they get $15/hr to put fries in a deep frier, then I should have gotten $30/hr.

What does it matter? Regardless if McDonalds pays them a higher wage or not I will pay for it. Either through higher prices at McDonalds or through taxes because their current wage is not a living wage and qualifies them for government subsides.

Re: Fast food workers want a minimum wage hike

No one should work for under 10 dollars an hour. Anything less is not nearly enough to live on unless you're 16, living at home and not truly paying for your own well being. These behemoth companies can afford to kick in a few more bucks then what they currently pay!!

How do I feel about it? They should be fired and replaced. The harder you are to replace, the more you're paid. A mcdonalds job is the EASIEST job to replace. IMO these fools should make no more than $6/hr

Minimum wage jobs are typically for high school kids, second jobs and the elderly making some extra scratch. Minimum wage jobs are a vital part of the market and extremely valuable to the young in terms of income and experience. People who live in poverty don't make minimum wage.

Look what I found

http://dailycaller.com/2013/12/04/st...verty-measure/
Quote:
Does raising the minimum wage actually harm the poor?

According to a study conducted by the conservative American Action Forum, increasing the minimum wage doesn’t fight poverty or close income gaps.

Supporters of raising the minimum wage argue that workers can’t live off a federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, which translates into $15,080 per year for a full-time worker.

This past September, California Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation that increased the state minimum from $8 to $10 per hour. And even more recently, SeaTac, Washington raised its minimum wage all the way to $15 per hour.

President Obama also endorsed the idea presented by some members of Congress to set a federal minimum wage to $10.10.

Although these efforts were intended to help low income individuals, AAF’s research shows that the majority of people who live in poverty are not the ones earning a minimum wage salary.

In 2011, only 1.2 percent of people in families with incomes below the federal poverty line earned an hourly wage at or below $9 per hour and only 1.5 percent earned a wage at or below $10.10 per hour.
Even among all those who work and are in poverty, only 28.5 percent earn $9 per hour or less and 36.2 percent earn $10.10 per hour or less.

These figures, says AAF, “suggest that increases in minimum wage to $9 and $10.10 not only would fail to assist almost 99 percent of all people in poverty, but they would also neglect the vast majority of people in poverty who are actually working.”

Researchers found that the largest demographic of minimum wage earners are actually teenagers from middle-class families.

The AAF report determined that instead of fighting income inequality, an increase in the minimum wage may actually widen the income gap by limiting earnings from the unemployed and directing more money to the top 20 percent of earners.

According to the study, there is no statistical evidence that the minimum wage increases between 2003 and 2007 decreased state poverty rates. Researchers found that only 15.5 percent of the net benefits from raising the federal minimum wage to $7.25 went to workers living in poverty. They predicted that if the minimum wage were to rise to $9.50, a mere 10.5 percent of the net benefits would go to workers in poverty.

On Thursday, activists plan to protest in more than a 100 cities across the US, calling for a $15 per hour wage for fast-food workers.
Not every job should be able to sustain a family.

Then get a different job. These jobs ARE meant for 16-year-olds living at home, not for single mothers with three kids. Better yourself to find a job that fits your financial needs.

I'm not paying people $15 an hour when they can't even remember to give me a straw. Plenty of recent college grads don't even make $15 an hour.

problem is this. mcD pays low wages and sets hours so that someone working there cannot collect full benefits and therefor has to collect welfare, medicade, and housing vouchers. on the other end, this earns mcD's huge profits, which are paid as low taxed dividends to rich fvcks who own stock. so the taxpayers are picking up the tab, so that rich people can get richer. it's a fvcked up cycle. mcD is a government subsidized company. that's what you should be fvcking pissed about, not your god damned dollar menu you fat fvcking bastards.

There should be no minimum wage. Let the market determine wages.

If you're making $10 an hour and trying to support a family, you are straight up dumb. There are so many jobs out there that pay more money for non-skilled labor that any of these people should attempt to get.

With the staggering number of handouts given by the federal government for damn near everything, they should be just fine on even no raise at all.

Let the free enterprise system set a minimum wage without government interference, and see where that gets us.

In a year or two, wages would stabilize without government mandates. Don't see it happening myself, but that's the answer...

Remember: Wages go up only if and when the added expense of doing business is passed on to the ultimate consumer. Raising the minimum wage will cause prices to rise, meaning fewer people would be able to afford commodities like food, transportation, et al. If you can't afford $2 a gallon milk at $8 an hour, you're going to hate it when you make $14 an hour and milk is $5 a gallon.

Some will work for less than others, and if they prove a detriment to the business, employers will fire them and/or offer more to others to get more quality help. Good workers will command more, useless ones will work for what they're worth, and either improve, or suffer. Or die. Whatever...
