is it true that if you have the hk upgrade,

you cant change the cd player unless you change your front and rear speakers, and amp??...i was at tweeter yesterday looking to get a tv/dvd unit...they said that i have to change everything hk if i wanted to do that...im a being lied to??

thats not true...but the person was probably telling you for good intensions...in most upscale cars, if you want to change the head unit and the stock system has a stock amp it can't be intergrated. the reason being the speakers in those cars run at 2 ohms.... when you change out the HU, it can't handle that ohm load and your HU normally goes up in smoke.... In the e46 the HU is one of the easier things to intergrate....and you will notice a huge difference...

Or, you can drive the HKs with an aftermarket amp. There are couple of ppl on the board who have done that. Claims to sound a lot better too!

from all the systems i've seen or worked on it normally sounds bad or gives off a lot of engine noise.... I guess it depends on who the install goes...in some cars like the lexus you have to use the stock amp's output to go to the after market amp...and that normally sounds horrid... I haven't done any in a bmw though.
