ATF Fluid part number compatibility?

. Hi guys:

I ordered some ATF fluid and the original part number i ordered was: 83 22 0 024 359. Today the dealer told me that part number: 83 22 0 026 922 is the same thing. Can anyone confirm this as i don't want to use the incorrect transmission fluid.

No, they are not the same.

Texaco ETL 7045E = BMW 83 22 0 026 922 (A5S360R)
Texaco ETL 8072B = BMW 83 22 0 024 359 (A5S390R)

My 2000 328Ci has the green label on the automatic transmission oil pan and states to only use fluid number: 83 22 0 002 121, which supercedes to part number: 83 22 0 403 248. I am going to source the transmission fluid specified on the label and not go by the dealer information as apparently they want to sell what they have in stock and not order the fluid my transmission requires. Unless, indeed there was some kind of recent part number changes and/or equivalencies.

Smart choice.

Last time I was at my dealership they tried to sell me an incorrect part for my car that would sort of work but was not the right one.

In my case I think they were trying to stock fewer parts. Probably the same in your case.

Bottom line is you can't trust your dealer to be using the correct parts. (wow). They use BMW parts, just the wrong ones from time to time (morons).

It is absolutely critical to get the correct fluid in your tranny.

Does anyone know if part number: 83 22 0 403 248 is Texaco ETL 7045E or Texaco ETL 8072B?
I just called Autogermana (they are the BMW distributors in Puerto Rico) and the parts representative told me that they don't sell the fluid over the counter because the fluid is lifetime and does not need to be replaced. He also told me i would have to bring my car in for them to check it out. Its incredible how poor customer service they have here in Puerto Rico.
