Yup! I did my car last week. Took most of the day but I don't get in a hurry to do anything. The vinyl isn't an exact match for Alpine white but close enough and 100 times better than the black.

Here's the link for the vinyl - http://www.beacongraphics.com/supplies/3m/3m-7125.html

Antique white is the best match for Alpine white and 15" x 10 yds. is the smallest amount you can buy.......this is more than enough needed to do the entire job.

I wonder if they have a match for Imola red. I'd love to do my exterior moldings, and interior trim to match.

After researching different color films, i finally found one that matches imola red. it's the A9 burgundy believe it or not. I ordered a few samples, and this one was almost perfect. It's just slightly darker, but you'd have to be right up on the car to tell the difference, and even then, the difference isn't noticeable. I'm gonna try to install it this weekend if I can get some replacement clips after work tomorrow. wish me luck.

One of the benefits of using tape is the bumpers inevitably get scratched, you can simply remove the mouldings and redo them with new tape. All my tape cost under $100. Painting a single moulding is min $300 at my local paint shop. Considering the front/real mouldings WILL eventually get dinged, it's nice to know that I can just redo them with the leftover tape at no extra cost!

It's been a year since I did this mod and the tape is still holding strong. No discolouration.

Didnt read the whole thread but how much was the tape? Would this an easier less expensive way to make color matched reflectors??

Thanks

Hey Guys,

Somebody mentioned that there was a better match to the 3M Silver tape (3M ScotchCAL ElectroCut Satin Aluminum 7125-120) so I ventured to find out....

I just came back from my local printshop in Vancouver and went through all the Avery swatch cards. It seems the perfect match for my Titanium Silver 2002 325xi is this:

High Performance Opaque Series Averygraphics
Silver Shimmer A9069-O (Pantone 877C)
unpunched, 15" x 30 feet (30 feet = 10 yards)

link to product : https://www.harborsales.net/
ENter this in teh search query: A9069OA

It even matches the metallic particles in the car paint. Only difference is in the amount of clear coats, the car's paint job has much more clear (thus shinier). The tint is identical though and the avery does have a gloss coat. I'm going to order a bunch from the local shop and see what happens.

Disclaimer, I have never been able to find the 3M tape to compare
Yanni
this is exactly what i need!!! thanks

Hey,

What pix specifically are you after? I've posted 20+ high res photos if you look at previous pages of this thread and other users have added their own.
If you specify what you are looking for someone might be able to help you

Sorry I didn't write what I was thinking. Does someone have pics of the current vinyl wrap since their install? I wanna see how it has held up. Thanks.

I did my tape job on November 2007. They only current tape wear is because of backing into things and scratching the plastic.
No photos sorry

Unpunched?

Does anyone know where this can be picked up unpunched? I googled and looked at the site given but all I can find are the punched rolls. I also noticed that as of feb 1,2009 avery seems to have changed the part num, but most sites still use the old ones.

I don't think punched matters, the sheets are wide and the holes are along the edges, you'll have plenty to work with.
