you can definitely hear the difference open/closed in a convertible.

To everyone that thinks their flap is broken: Your flap will stay open when your car is off.

If everything is hooked up properly.....

It's called WD-40. Use it to clean and lubricate the moving parts.. Its either that or a small peice of debris is hindering its movement. Quite common actually.

I tried this on my 2001 330xi - the valve wasn't opening up before when the car was off. Now after putting the golf tee in I can open the valve, but it will close very slowly and then begin to rattle. Just tried spraying some wd40 on it, but what could be causing this? If I can't fix it, sadly I'll have to remove tee, because I cannot stand the rattle.

I'll run behind yours and check if you run behind mine and check after!

its called "Take a flat head screw driver and jam it closed mod"

Over time the soot /carbon builds up around the valve and sticks it open/closed dosent hurt anything if its stuck open

can you remove plug with 325ci??

im looking and my 325ci-03 has this flap (butterfly) but it looks to be adjusted by a mechanical arm vs. a tube for suction. Can someone verify for me that 325ci has a tube that can be disconnected?

Yes, look further upwards, it'll be connected to a vacuum controlled solenoid .. that solenoid is connected to the mech arm that then connects to the flap

did mine yesterday. definatly noticed a difference, the lower frequency of the exhaust note is more pronounced, but not more aggresive. If i had to pay for this mod, and it cost more than the free phillips head screw i had laying in my toolbox, i probably would pass. But hey, it took me literally 90 seconds to do, so i'll give it a shot for a week or so.

I did this the other day to stop the rattling flap. But I have also noticed a drop in MPG since doing it. Could this effect MPG or do I maybe have something else going on?

Somehow I dont see it affecting mileage. Maybe theres just something else going on or youve been driving differently

I could be driving different and just not noticing. I do like the fact that the flap doesn't rattle on cold mornings. I guess I just need to to watch it. I filled up with gas tonight and it dropped 3 miles off the counter, before I left the parking lot.
