NOOOO - at least with the strut bar - you can put spacers in to make it clear - i had to do the same after the SC install (the bigger injectors make the engine cover sit higher)

what is in the s package - what motor do you have? Do you have the M56 or the M54 like me? Contact ESS and see what they can do for you. They offer NA ECU upgrades

^ DINAN isn't all its cracked up to be anyway, you can do better, I think SOMEONE has software for SULEV motors. Try Samir @ Technik, maybe he knows, as they are based in CA

I am seriously bummed. Damn this M56 motor.

The S Package was:
ECU/DME
Transmission ECU
Intake
Exhaust
Strut Tie bar
pedal covers (I swapped those for new floor mats, because who really needs pedal covers?)

- DME won't update as it's incompatible.
- Tranny ecu update is kind of pointless without the ecu update
- Intake - I guess it can stay... but I suspect it is what is causing the motor to run like a tractor.
- Exhaust can most likely stay but needs to be adjusted because it's hitting the bumper when the motor vibrates (due to items listed above) sounds like a wood pecker in the back seat... datdatdatdatdatdat.. burnt paint, etc.
- Strut tie bar hits the engine cover - would need to shim the strut tie bar a good 3/8ths of an inch. Which would put all the stress on the strut bolts - not the lip of the front clip / strut towers; = That's bad... mmmkay?
- Floor mats - yeah.. not paying for them individually. If they were a freebee with the S package, fine - but seriously I'm not paying $150.00 for them.

What a bummer. What a HUGE waste of time. Kind of an embarrassment too, I posted all about it, how cool it was, etc. Now I'm *that* f'n guy.

The shop who installed it all has been pretty helpful. I can't fault them, they installed what DINAN sent them. Someone in Morgan Hill over looked the M56 part of my vehicle description. *THAT* guy needs a kick in the nuts.

can you run a bar meant for an M3 instead? I know they work on regular e46 - and they have more clearance

Does the M3 bar fit on a sedan? the touring is a sedan forward of the b-billar. I wonder...

I'll look into the ECU stuff later, for now I'm just burnt out on it. A LOT of time, money, and energy went into this and what I have left to show is kind of a steaming pile of dung.

Again - it could be worse I suppose.

yea, now that I can start the zhp again i might be tempted to pull it out of the garage and pull the wagon in and lower the rear...

(although I need to lower the rear of the sedan as well)

I would hope that Dinan supplier would be glad to re-imburse your money and maybe compensate your losses to the installer

The install shop said they will do what ever I want. If I want to return the car to stock - they will, no issue at all. INCLUDING an OEM exhaust. They have been very supportive. They said they'd refund the money tomorrow. I just need to tell them how far I want to roll the car back. I may want to keep the Exhaust and Intake if we can get the car to run right (lots of vibrations right now...)

The strut tie bar serves no real purpose - so it's gone - imho.

I have an OEM M3 strut bar on my Touring, it fits great and it does add some extra stiffness that you can feel. The bar fits so close to the hood that it leaves a faint indent in the under hood insulation just in the center leaving more clearance between the engine and the bar.

Also the rubber hangers that support the rear muffler are easy to adjust down by putting spacers like nuts or washers between the hangers and the underbody.

The M3 bar is about $250 to $300 new so this is a better deal if it fits.

Reeeheeehheeelllly?

Interesting. So.. I'm not going to close my hood and put a huge whonk in it from the perches from an M3 strut tie bar?

Unc'Don - do you have sway bars? If so which ones? (size, etc.)

Regarding the adjustment of the muffler - I'll most likely build some shims out of sheet steel stock and shim it down. If I can do that I'll keep it on there. Do you have an intake on your touring?

Things may be looking up.

Other than the Bekkers lowering cups in the front, my suspension is all stock Sports Package. I tried Eibach Pro springs but the ride quality got a little too bouncy. I like the balance between ride and handling that BMW has engineered into the car. I love the look of the lowered cars with 19's but I don't want the stiff ride... that's what my 911 is for.

I suggested nuts or washers to shim down the exhaust hangers because it's very easy to put them on the studs between the hanger and the underbody. You'll see when you look under there.

My intake is also stock, but my rear muffler is a ZHP.
