My Ride: is alpine white...
interior LED conversion...

Hi guys,

I just start some work with my new mod - interior LED conversion,
yesterday for some example I swapped few oem orange LEDs in cluster to white but today I just changed my mind and now my gauges are blue.
On first pic two gauges (speed/rpm) are white and tranny LCD are RED not really good pic and also I forgot to make test pic,
Second pic - test 2.0 and is easy to see all lights, 2 LCDs are RED (not oem orange) I think now these looking better,
Before I'll start changing LEDs in A/C controll , CD and all switches I need your opinion guys which color looking better, or maybe some other ideas? maybe full RED?
My car is alpine white and I think many interior light colors will looking good but anyway can't get decision yet...

Thansk for any suggestions.

Yes the LEDs are small things you have to resoldering some of them, I don't know about your experience with soldering but you have be careful don't overheat you cluster Copper Clad!!! And before soldering double check LED cathode (negative side) and anode (positive side) because some of them looks the same but has it on different ends.

On pic #2 I swaped 32 LEDs this takes me about 2 hours with installation but electronics is my hobby from many years.
If you need help let me know or send me your cluster

Send a message via AIM to sbocaj55
wooboodoo definitely post a pic of the rear of the gauge cluster and mark which LED's do what, if you would be so kind. That would be awesome.

And no doubt about it...FULL RED

these are pix from OEM cluster of the LEDs. I tried to put a solder to it and may have burnt one and did not want to come off.

how do you do this?!

this is a picture of a regular Z4 gauge face on Z4 M's cluster, which has white LED's....I sold mine, but i might buy it back to do the LED mod!

This might sound like a stupid question but hear me out.

How did you even get to the cluster? And parts, where did you go for the parts? I say this becuase I need the whole step by step process to work something like this out. I don't see anything like this on the net at all. Where did you go for a reference? The bently book?

Nice work on the gauge pod. I would never have the paitence......I like the white, but not feeling the Honda blue. Again, great work. Had a buddy try that on a Maxima and the Maxima display screen....so much work with those little LEDs. Not for everyone to attempt.......unless you are snowed in and have time on your hands...

thank you buddy
yes you right white are my and even my wife! choice, i will do this one more time and finally gonna install white.
E46 2003 cluster has only PLCC-2 LEDs installed, to work with PLCC-2 LEDs it's not that bad they are big, different story is with 1206 but still you can do this... what i can say about 0603? don't do this w/o binoculars and starbucks coffee
