Posted this elsewhere on here but I have to add it to THE touring thread!
I picked up this touring this May to use as my daily driver. It had 90k miles but was amazingly clean! I was surprised I was able to find a manual with the sport package. No sunroof either so it is as light weight as an AWD touring can be! Should be a great, sporty ski car here in New England. A big improvement over the hand-me-down Lexus ES300 I was driving. So far I have been focusing on doing all the maintenance a high mileage E46 needs. Replaced the thermostat and water pump. Probably do the overflow tank and radiator hoses next year. Changed the oil, I can't believe how easy that is. Installed a cold air intake, now I can at least here the engine revving even if it isn't adding any power. Replaced the cabin air filter. Next up is the transmission, transfer case, and differential fluid. Then the spark plugs. Also recently go Dunlop Winter Sport 3D snow tires on Sport Edition A7 wheels with BMW center caps. Should give it a nice OEM look all winter. As for looks and other mods, added smoked corners and tinted windows. Removed the badge and the roof rails the other day. I would like to color match the bumper and side moldings so I ordered some vinyl. Definitely need to drop it SOON. I have seen MANY awesome tourings on here for inspiration! Attached are a few pics of the car as it looked when I got it, then how it looks after some tinkering. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Shopping for springs. Is the Xi touring with sport package 0.6" lower than a non-sport like the sedans? Basically I am wondering what you guys run, and if when I see H&Rs with "1.2"' drop, will I actually only end up with a 0.6" drop? That is not gonna do it! You guys must be running coil overs to get so low.

I haven't done any mods for a while.. I guess the itch got too intense.. went FI with VF's kit. Still breaking it in but sure feels good so far.

Thanks guys... It makes a bigger visual difference in person than I thought it would.
It looks great with the 18" wheels. I did consider the M-Tech II side skirts, but I prefer the look of the standard ones... along with the big square mirrors, the roof rails, and the chrome trim. I even prefer the wood inside, so I guess it just comes down to personal preference. |
