Question: I just bought a pair from VAC Motorsports with additional reinforcement, can i flip these upside down?

http://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-...kit-p2536.aspx

Thanks z3couper for the link.

Answer: I believe it is No. Damnit wasted money (i installed them). :/

"Additionally, the reinforcement has its hardware welded to it, allowing for the rear shock mount to become a bottom-mount design. This means that if the rear shocks need to be removed, it only requires removing the two nuts and the single bolt at the bottom of the shock. Once installed, there is no need to completely disassemble the trunk area to gain access. If being used with a rear strut tower brace, the reinforcement assembly may be mounted from the bottom, so that the rear shock mount can be secured in the traditional manner." -RE

O.. and here is a sneak peak of my install.

This is my idea of perfection; it even is in wagon form! I've found it almost impossible to come by a E46 with no sunroof, manual seats, manual transmission, auto climate control, no fold-down seats (unless wagon) and xenon lights. I'd love to get rid of the X5 I drive and pick this up.
Thanks for the tip! My son is buying that car. I will drive up there with him to pick it up soon.

Thanks! I look forward to trying out a stick shift touring. Maybe I will be motivated to trade mine in for one someday, or maybe swap out my tranny. They are very hard to find. This will be my son's second car to his 2009 Cadillac CTS-V stick shift sedan, which he does not like to drive in bad weather.

Great pictures. Be sure to post over in the DIY section if you haven't already.

My search-and-remove-everything method with TIS printouts worked out okay during my rear shock replacement a few months back, but having these pictures would have been a nice bonus.

Hatch glass poltergeist exorcised

My hatch glass had the bad habit of randomly popping open. After a bunch of troubleshooting, I narrowed the search down to a bad/shorting hatch button. Took me a while to find a new one - I think I got the last one on the planet. Tischer fortunately had a dusty one under the old superseded P/N.

You have to remove the wiper and its shaft to remove the button, which basically is a donut the shaft passes through. The entire assembly & a gasket pass through a hole cut in the glass. Well, it turned out the two wires for the button were out of position and rubbing (presumably from the factory), and the insulation had worn through. Bump in the road, wiper running = short and glass poppage.

I went ahead and installed the new button, but I'm sure the old one could be fixed with some heat shrink tubing or even electrical tape. I'm hanging on to it as a backup.

glass hatch popping open

My mom's 2000 323it had a similar problem, button didn't work, glass would pop open with the remote and sometimes randomly while driving.
The problem with hers turned out to be where the flat wire (that looks like tape around the perimeter of the window from the latch/button to the wire harness) had come un-soldered from where it went from 'regular' wire to the flat/tape wire. It was kind of tricky to track down, it's hidden under a black plastic coupler where the wires transition.
Thought I'd throw that out there in case someone comes across a similar problem and it's not he button (which I did try replacing first).

Good to know of another possible failure point. I tell ya, that whole rear wiper/button deal really is kinda Rube Goldberg.

Tell me about it It's always fun when I'm on the highway and the glass pops its latch! Thankfully the pistons are strong enough to keep it from flying open, but it's a serious pain nonetheless. Then, when I want it to open, the button never works.
