Question Ebay headers!

I'm wondering about buying these headers. Has anyone tried them/heard anything? Are they shite? They look good, but... I wanted to buy the $699 headers from autotalent, but you know guys the cost... The ebay ones only costed me $135. Please give me some inputs/opinions. I had SS headers on my 328 E46 and they were insane! I want to buy headers now, so please answer/post quickily!

If you're willing to accept that they might crack someday (or want to have them coated yourself) then they're fine. Go for it.

You'll have to look for coating services in your area.

When it comes to headers and eBay.... "you get what you pay for" definitely applies. I don't know what passes for "stainless steel" in Taiwan, but its more akin to "random pot metal swept off the shop floor" than any true SS alloys I know of .

Just know going in that: they won't fit as well, last as long, or perform as well as the real header that rip-off eBay header was cloned from. If you are OK with that, and their very finite lifetime, then go for it.

Are you kidding!? The manufacturer of eBay hedders is the same as supersprint, but they come without a badge and special coatings, but it is 304 stainless. My year-old, 20,000 mile, sparkling eBay hedders are a testament to that.

Okay, so here's a slightly different question. I have read a few threads from start to finish regarding ebay headers. I have an e46 328i so I shouldn't be running into the wrong header fitment problems I've been reading about. What I would like to know, is as of now my 328i, aside from a short shifter and some cosmetic work, is bone stock. Will I need to chip it, or anything else to drive the car? I plan on doing more down the road, little at a time. Also, does installing these headers require removal of the cats? Guessing this will fail state inspection (NJ). Thanks guys.

No you don't need a chip. The cats are in the OEM manifolds, so yes, you will lose them. You can either accept that and ride around with a check engine light, get software to turn off the check engine light, or weld new cats in after the headers.

I don't mind not having cats and down the road I'll get the software to prevent the O2 sensors from throwing codes... However, how detectable will it be, by state inspection that the cats are not there? I know they use a mirror to look under the car, are the stock cats even visible using that method?

From what I understand here in PA, they will pass anything in NJ.

As for the check engine light, you don't need software. Just a couple of screwdrivers and electrical tape. Take apart the instrument cluster and put some electrical tape over the check engine light. My car has a barrage of lights going off. I did this and it looks like everything is just spiffy.

Actually, I don't run about 8 things that would set the light off. It's amazing how many things you can not run on that car and it keeps on ticking.

BTW: I don't need to pass state inspection. Just Grand-Am inspection.

Yeahhhh the tape method doesn't work too well for state inspections

As for an inspector knowing the cats aren't there...a lot of them see the resonators and think they're cats. You cant really see the OEM ones easily anyway. I wouldn't worry about the visual inspection.

NJ state inspection is strict as hell. I've failed for the most inane things. Once, on an old Toyota Camry the drivers' side mirror was "too loose", another time they failed me for brakes after I had recently replaced them, drove to another inspection station and passed. I have another car that, even with an aftermarket cat they fail me everytime and I end up taking it to a independent guy who "plays" with it to get it to post passing numbers...

Software can solve the codes being thrown, I can always add this later.

when you add hedders, most people opt to never reinstall the heat shields that sit over the stock exhaust manifolds, i am in this camp. However, those heat shields would help in the visual inspection if they open the hood. I also removed my secondary air pump as all it does is heat up the cats- that are no longer there; but this does further expose the hedders. With these mods and no heat shields, my hedders are extremely obvious.

Are your headers obvious too, or just the hedders?

Thank you all very much for the answers to my question. I've ordered the headers incl. projector fogs for the m-tech2 front bumper. I hope it will look sweet with the fogs though. I am a little sceptic about aftermarket fogs. I like the OEM look, but still I want something different... I want the fogs to match my 6000k ebay angel eyes...
