Looks like your valve cover gasket (VCG) is leaking; common issue and easy fix.

See this thread on common oil/coolant/fluid leaks with photos: http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=882732.

And there are plenty of DIYs out there you can reference if you search around. Would recommend using the OE Genuine BMW gasket, be sure to pick up 15 new grommets for the bolts, and be mindful of the torque/tightening steps when you tighten things back down. Below are a few resources, but would be worthwhile to read up on others' experiences.

Depending on the maintenance history, there may be other areas you want to address "while you're in there" (spark plugs, vacuum lines, cabin air filter, etc.).

Here's Beisan Systems' VANOS DIY that also covers much of the VCG (very clear steps/images/torques specs/etc.): http://www.beisansystems.com/procedu..._procedure.htm.

And here's a good video series by BavAuto:

Hope some of this helps, and you'll find a wealth of information if you search the forums, as well. Good luck!
