Headlight problems after new battery installed

I had a new battery installed two days ago,and tonight after getting dinner, i started my 2000 323i and turned on the headlights. They came on and as I was backing out they flashed as if they turned off and on. As I was driving I noticed that they did that several times. At a stoplight The lamp indicator showed my left tail light was out, then it went off. Could it be that the battery cable is not on tight enough? I neve had this problem before.
