M3 shift boot vs. SSK: What do do?

subject was supposed to be what TO do.... anywhoo...

Anyone here put an ssk into an M3? (I'm sure someone here has). What did you do about the shift boot, since it's part of the shift knob. tia.

UUC alancantara shift boot is a good solution..Comes in gray or black:smile:

I think I might be responsible for a shift kit here and there...

Your original shift boot with integral knob is completely compatible with any short shift kit. The knob comes off the shift lever, and should be able to attach to the new shift lever.

The only issue with the E46 M3's one piece boot and knob is if you want to change the shift knob. The easy solution is the factory shift boot from a non-M3 E46 coupe, which will fit the M3 perfectly.

And as John pointed out, UUC will shortly have an E46-specific alcantara shift boot for your M3.

Yep, the issue is that I have a new shift knob to put in. I'll check out the alcantara stuff when you guys have it.

It's not that much more and we can also do a matching E-brake boot too!

You can even choose the color of the stitching.

I've really been noticing how nice the colored shift boot / e-brake boots look, so I was considering it when I get my SSK (sometime AFTER I get my car *sigh*). Anyhow, since I've got black on black, I'm not sure which color to consider - maybe red, maybe blue. Any suggestions?
