FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU you make some sick ass builds!

Here's my current build:

Core i7 3770K @ 3.5ghz stock
MSi Z77A-G53 mainboard
8GB Corsair Vengeance RAM
EVGA GTX 670 2GB
Thermaltake TR2 650w PSU
WD 1TB hard drive and Maxtor 120gb and 120gb Mushkin SSD
Corsair Carbide 500R case
Samsung SyncMaster P2370HD 1080p Monitor

I use it for gaming, video editing, photo editing, everything really. Built it last summer, it's still going strong. It was a bit of a budget build at first, still kinda is, but it does everything I ask it to, so I can't complain!

Pretty sweet...does having a soundblaster make a difference these days compared to built in audio?

Nice I'm definitely a fan of the Corsair parts (if you couldn't tell)

On the Black Edition we're doing this year... probably not. I'm actually going to goof around with testing that. Older days a dedicated card did equal better gaming performance. I honestly just stuck with it, even if it's an outdated mentality.

Heh... these are actual costs. I used my Amazon Prime so a lot these items shipped for free. It wasn't easy to do much better on these prices and get quickly. He missed the Cyber deals, a lot of stuff was sold out in the local places and I have a deadline to get it done. I didn't charge him a build cost this year (roughly 10% normally) because he had the 2010 machine (with SLI GTX 680s) he's giving me. I just enjoy doing it and would honestly probably do them for free.

The $20 shipping on $56 in AF120's was by mistake. I wasn't paying attention at checkout and assumed it was under the free prime shipping.

Built this over the summer, it was my first.

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core - normally run it at 4.0GHz but crank it up to 4.6 when I'm rendering video or running computationally-heavy code
G Skill Ripjaw 1833 8GB
Corsair H50 57.0 CFM Liquid CPU cooler
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155
Samsung 830 Series 128GB 2.5" SSD - OS
Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM - Storage
NZXT Tempest 410 ATX Mid Tower
Corsair 600W ATX12V
Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer

The only picture I have

edit: I've had it as high a 4.5GHz but it wasn't stable over long periods of time.

Been pumping out I5-I7 1155 65w, 4 gig, SSD shuttles. I have a personal rig at home for storage and pure gaming but these new small form factors are sweet and easy. Onboard video is not as weak as it used to be even for a non gaming computer.

I'll post mine from ~2007. It was probably an ongoing build and ended in 2009.

Cooler Master HAF932 - painted it black, white and pink.
Intel E6300 - OC'd to 2.73GHz
Corsair DDR2 800Mhz 4GB
Seagate 160GB 7200RPM drive
Asus HD 5970
Swiftech MCR240
Swiftech Appogee GTZ
Swiftech MCP350
Swiftech Micro Res v1
Samsung DVD-R drive

I think those were the specs back when I built it in 8th grade. Still using it today but only for sim racing. If I were to build another, I would go with a mATX format that is also watercooled.

ouch expensive Braymond! Those 3 780's are expensive! lol

How much to build a good gaming rig but not that monster you're building now? I'd want it for the Space Sim type of games which I guess would need some power to run well.

I've personally never owned a PC, family had an off the shelf one when I was a kid. All my personal computers have been Apple.

But seriously, what are the specs on the machine you use for modeling? I have access to a 42 core machine but wouldn't know what to do with it.

You don't need anything close to that kind of horsepower unless you want an FEA model of a small jet with 1cm resolution or a very fine resolution (10ms or less resolution) transient model and even then all that computer would do is take less time to come to a solution.

These are the specs on the machine that is assigned to me (unofficially but I hog it most of the time ), I have access to others but this one does just fine for 95% of the tasks I send to it:
- 2x Four Core XEON (E5-1620, 3.6GHz, 10M, Turbo)
- 16GB, DDR3 RDIMM Memory, 1600MHz, ECC (4 x 4GB DIMMs)
- 2x 1.0GB NVIDIA® Quadro® 2000
- 2x 24" Dell Wide Flat Panel
- C7 - All SATA Hard Drives, RAID1 for 2 Hard Drives
- 256GB SSD
- 250GB SATA II, 7200RPM NCQ Additional Hard Drive w/ 8MB Data Burst Cache (no need for more storage, files and results data get dumped to network storage when the solver completes)

For more complicated solutions, we have a computing center that I can send the files to and they run the solver. I'm not sure off the top of my head what machine they run it on but it's roughly double the power of the machine I described above.

In all seriousness, my home PC is pretty blah compared to most on here but all I use it for is photoshop and the internets.

- Core i3 overclocked to 3.2GHz, can push to 3.8GHz when I need it to crunch some numbers.
- CoolerMaster Evo 212 CPU cooler
- 8Gb of GSkill RAM
- 64Gb OCZ Agility 2 SSD
- 750Gb internal storage 7200rpm WD Black
- 500Gb external WD MyBook drive
- 20" Asus monitor
- Logitech G2 laser mouse
- Some POS keyboard
- DVD Drive
