I'd wager to say that most people take out some sort of loan to buy a bike, be it new or used.

I've bought both of my bikes cash and will continue to do so from now on. I am not against taking a loan out on a bike, I just feel like its a toy (that can double as a serious form of transportation) so I wouldn't want to owe on my leisure. Plus you can decide what insurance coverage you would like if you own it outright.

My ///M3 is a toy that doubles as a serious form of transportation too. I owe a lot on it as well (..approximately $57k remaining).

I didn't carry full coverage until this summer when I could finally afford it. most people flat out wouldn't insure me. a lot of lien holders aren't requiring full coverage anymore because they're losing business

Why wouldn't they insure you?

+1 if you have the cash, they'll insure you. full coverage insurance is about 100eur/month over here (mid twenties, clean record). minimum coverage is about 10eur/month.

When bikes cost $8,000 or more, why wouldn't you finance it? Especially with some really low aprs, it makes perfect sense.

Buy a used $3,000, sure I'll pay cash, but a new Duc for $16,000, yea I'm going to finance it.

Oh, I agree, especially these days. I'm looking to buy another bike, late model 04-newer Aprilia RSV 1000 Factory, which is one of the best bargains in Italian sport bikes.

I figure $6,000 or so in cash will get me a nice one, I'm going shopping in the next few months after I save a bit. Anymore though, and I would just get now at low apr 36 months.

Insurance isn't always too cheap, especially if you live in an area you can ride year round.

For instance, we get 4-5 months of decent temperature riding around here. My full coverage on my R6 is $120 a month..... That's pretty spendy considering the bike is worth $5200 and really in the market would catch about $4500.

I'm 25 with a clean record....

Now I took a loan on mine because I didn't have it all in cash, but I am about done paying it off also, it's only been about 6 months.

Now that's sportbikes, cruisers are a LOT cheaper.

I was 24 when I bought it and statistically that bike, the r6, and gixers were too risky for my age group. they said if I had got the zx6 it would have been fine but I'm too small for those. the best rate I got for full was $7000/year which I think was a nice way of telling me to fuk off

That is ridiculous... My brother insured a R1 at 23 with a few tickets on his record and it was like $40 a month.
*Liability*

Zx6, just because it doesn't have an R in it probably... Like it's SOOO much slower... pfft..

Insurance companies are a joke, I even went down at about 65, got back up rode my bike home, I didn't bother making the claim... It's just not worth it unless its totaled.

they told me it's because statistically the cbr, r6, and gixxers are stolen and crashed more than the zx6 hahaha. i guess no one wants a kawi. i had liability and a lot of comprehensive in case it was stolen but that's it. after i turned 25 state farm was able to insure me at a really good rate

I have Progressive for my '09 CBR and was paying $1200 a year but just found out I have to have a SR-22 filed from a previous incident and they jacked it up to $2500 a year. I've done a LOT of research and that's the cheapest it's gonna get. FML.

Damn! Talk about shafted. Insurance on my '07 GSXR 600 was a mere $35 a month addition to my current policy with State Farm. The Ducati will be about $48 a month! Hell, I only pay $98.00 a month on my '08 M3 with State Farm (..30 years old, clean record, loyalty discounts, etc.).

If you ever had to work on one you would know why

I love my R6, takes me about 30 minutes to get all the fairings off and the motor and transmission out, another 10 to separate the motors and transmission.

hondas are the easiest to steal, extremely, someone showed me why i few years ago, i was sad.
gixxers parts are traded probably more than anything else, and R6 is just, i dunno.

Because Gixxers break every time you crash them and cost $1000+ each time.

And Because R6's are tanks that never die, and one of the most respected platforms for amateur racing, parts are a dime a dozen and cheap.
*Not sure why im amateur racing it's ALL rider ability, I remember watching a guy get his butt kicked all over a road track by a guy on a Ninja 500R when he was riding a 1000RR, just completely out skilled.

Only bike I know of that's more bullet proof is the old F4i's.

actually you see more gixxers at the race track that anything, and thats drag and circuit. and R6s are NOT tanks. trust me.
